I run Avast on my windows 8 machine.
I feel safer if my security is not provided by Microsoft.  Beer

Why?? We use it all over the place. Free and works well.

It is easy to hate MS but why in this instance unless you are running a hacked operating system.

Different name same product. Yes it has to be activated as it checks for hacked operating systems and such.
Looks identical to MS Security Essentials. One comes with MS 8 other can be downloaded for free by anyone.
Only difference is name at top of screen. Works fine. Been using it for years. I wouldn't touch McAfee or Norton
ever again.

If you're not sure or don't understand the differences or limitations of the Microsoft product, then you should get a more comprehensive product, like Norton, McAffee or Kaspersky, IMHO.

Been running MS essentials on 40 different systems. The product is fine for the average person. My experience with Norton or McAffee is pretty miserable and I would not touch them as they are bloatware. Kaspersky is a cut above the other two but do average folks here need any of these when MS essentials, or others are free and work well enough for the average user?
