Extending an FM-T
I have been under the impression that the only way to extend the 180 day visa was to go out of Mexico and return, but I just read on a travel blog (from a self-proclaimed "Mexico Expert," that an extension can be obtained at the local immigration office (with payment of fees of course).

There are no extentions on a tourist visa, you must leave the country within the 180 days. You can then return with a new 180 day visa or with a temporal or permanente which can be obtained at the Mexican consulate.

You can also go to Tijuana and not leave Mexico to get a new tourist card. Immigration can extend cards up to 6 months total but if you already have 180 days then there is nothing.

At the end of the 180, can it be done at Immigration in Chapala?
Trying to save a long/expensive trip to the border for a friend.
Thanks.
