Pet Groomers for Cats?

Post by MyrnaMinkoff on Wed Jul 15, 2015 12:10 am

Hi Everyone,

In the Cat Food post I just mentioned we are finally making our move from Oregon to Lake Chapala, and plan to arrive before the end of August. Can't wait!

Does anyone know of a good cat groomer? The long haired Maine Coons love their Lion Cuts to shed all that bulky fur. It is tricky to shave a cat apparently (the shears can easily cut their fragile skin), so we are looking for someone who is experienced. Perhaps a vet who speciallizes in cats?

Thanks for your help on this!!!

i would suspect a vet is your only choice because an anesthetic would be involved.

Hola Pedro! I think you are right, and Lady Otter sent reassuring thoughts about good vets in Lakeside!!!
Thank you!!!

Hi & welcome Myrna. One of our cats is part Maine Coon & gets his semi-annual lion cut under anesthesia @ the Animal Clinic by Dr. Ladron de Guevara. His office is located on Av. Hidalgo in Riberas. Phone # is 376-765-5940. They do a great job!

Hensley on this board gets her tabby a lion cut  done locally. No anesthetic. If you want to know her groomer just ask and I will try to contact her.

I had a number of Persian breeder friends NOB who had their cats trimmed and I never heard of using anesthesia. Do find out who Hensley uses.

Our vet uses a very light anesthesia.  Kirby is a large cat weighing in @ 20# and has scratched & bitten more than one groomer.  Under anesthesia, he is less stressed & less apt to hurt anyone. BTW, our other cat tolerates grooming without any problem.
