There was a letter to the editor in the last Guadalajara Reporter about no longer being able to exercise dogs in front of Riviera Alta, (not a park). There IS a state law requiring all dogs be leashed, which is not what the dog owner wishes to do. He is complaining that he must obey the law. He states Riviera Alta is, "the only place Lakeside where we can take our dogs". There is a dog park in San Antonio Tlayacapan, on Ramon Corona where all dog owners can take and train their dogs. There is an area for agility training, Art Hess often holds training classes there and the dogs and the owners are able to spend time together and socialize. It appears to be very nice, the people sit in the shade while their dogs play together, or the owners play with and/or train their dogs. It is not free however, there is a fee, I believe one can pay either a daily or monthly fee. It seems most people go between 9 and 10 in the morning when it is cooler.

There was (is?) a large open space near Rivera Alta that folks were using as a free off-leash dog park. it is fenced on three sides and very pleasant. It is really sad if it can't be used any more.
The pay-for-use dog park in San Antonio is only open the the morning. They allow really mean, untrained, aggressive dogs to have the run of the park after noon. I admit I only went once and the dogs and I were so unimpressed we never went back.

The barker I can hear right now got out two days ago and bit an elderly neighbor of mine on the leg,her husband was furious I think that barker 's days are numbered.

The front of Riviera Alta is maintained by them and if they want the leash laws applied so be it. Were the people who were using it for a park going in the afternoon or only in the morning? If only in the AM then the park may be the answer to their problem.
Flamingo, you went one time to a business and have enough information to write a negative review? Isn't that the same as going to a restaurant once and then panning it without a second chance? The business people here are usually just getting by and discouraging people from trying it out can be very harmful.
I do not think those dogs you wrote about go there anymore, I don't think anyone uses it in the afternoon, too hot.

It has been more than a year since I used the informal dog park in front of Riveria Alta. A lot of people were using it. Some went in the morning but there were others who used it in the afternoon. I was told it was municipality owned property but RA maintained it by watering and mowing. It sprawls right in front of their entrance and a weed-filled lot as you drive up would be unappealing. I don't know how RA proposes to enforce the leash law unless they have been authorized by the municipality to write tickets.

Re: From tob
i heard today that if a RA resident complains to the security guard about an unleashed dog, the guard will ask the owner to leash or leave. If the person does neither, the police will be called. I am sure that a phone call about an unleashed dog will receive the very highest priority. In other words, it is unenforceable.

The barker/biter has been given to family members who live in another part of town.
I guess that the new neighbor got the message.
