Do I need a motorcycle license to drive an ATV (quad)?

There probably isn't any available. My point was that they shouldn't allow these to be driven on public roads without it.

Then for sure, don't get one.

For me. they are easy to navigate Lakeside; very easy to park, turn around, etc. It's also nice to have that "open" feeling. That's one reason convertibles are so popular.

They get great mileage and for me, are just basically fun.

A question: If you should have an accident, damaging a car or injuring a person, are you aware that you will sit in a Mexican jail until you make complete financial restitution, or are rendered penniless and either put in prison or deported? All that, for driving an uninsured off-road vehicle on the public roads. Besides, they are a nuisance in traffic and a danger to others. End of rant.

That is also why I don't like them running around. Some of them are large enough to cause significant damage and/or kill a pedestrian.

I understand I will be detained unless there is some agreement made in a less than death situation.

I checked with the Chapala police and it is street legal if I have a license plate/tag. Also, my standard Chofer license is good for driving it.

I have no basis on anything I have previously heard, read of seen, that suggests an ATV is a nuisance or danger to others. No motorcycles that zip in and out of traffic, that could be another story.

Everything IMO of course.

Yes there are some that are seriously big, powerful and could do a lot of damage; mine is not in that category.

I do not want to go into the details but a few years back the 18 yr old daughter of a well known Ajijic businessman was riding a quad without a helmet when it flipped and landed on her. The handlebar penetrated her skull. Last I heard at that time was she was in a vegetative state, not sure if she is still alive today. Even if you do not care about your life, think about those who care for you and act like an adult, wear a helmet.
