Fogon de Charlotte Empty Fogon de Charlotte

Post by Charliej Fri Oct 14, 2016 8:37 pm

We have eaten at Fogon de Charlotte a few times and went there tonight. We each ordered a salad. While eating the salads, a small caterpillar was found in the lettuce of one of the salads. The waiters apologized profusely. They explained that they bought bagged salad from a local distributor and that it was ready to use, requiring no washing at the restaurant. I do not blame the restaurant, but I will not be going back again.

Really? That wouldn't stop me from going there. I just wouldn't order salad.

Wow! I'm glad I was born and raised in the country.

I've had similar situations happen, I notified the wait staff, accepted the apology and dismissed the unfortunate situation.  If it was regular occurrence then they would lose my business.

Yes I'm sure it was shocking, imho I think  you're over reacting, but I'm just as good ole country boy.

I guess eating the larvae in mescal is a no go and a gig on survive is out of the equation..

I would hate to see what the OP would do if he DID blame the restaurant.

I always wash bagged salad vegetables. If only to get rid of any chemicals used to rid it of unwanted visitors.

You're so lucky. Critter in salad probably means the greens are organic or close. On the other hand, a hair, I'm outta there.

Yup, organic greens. I'd rather have a small critter than pesticide residue. . .

I found a small caterpillar in my salad on a flight back when they served meals. I quietly called it to the attention of the stewardess. I told her I wasn't upset since it was whole. I might have been if it was only half.
I have swallowed one or two in my day from a full bottle of mezcal, but that's a bit different than chomping one up in my salad.

But it's protein in it's natural state and organic, locally sourced! What's not to like? :)

I'm remembering the old joke that it is better to find a worm in your apple than half a worm?
