Volunteering
My wife and I are coming to the Ajijic area in November for about 6 months. We would love to volunteer in an animal shelter or an animal rescue society. Can someone point us in the right direction with contact info. Much appreciated

Re: Volunteering
I am going to play fair, rather than just point you to my favorite, The Dog Ranch. Here are the four most active and in need of volunteers:
The Dog Ranch - is a rescue and refuge for unwanted dogs. At any given time, we have about 70 dogs. We have mostly medium to large dogs. We need people to walk dogs, help train dogs, love dogs... We are located east of Chapala.

Anita's Animals - is located in San Juan Cosala and rescues both dogs and cats. I am guessing they have between 75 and 100 animals depending on the season. They mostly need people to spend time giving the dogs and cats attention and love.

Lucky Dog - is the newest of the shelters. They are located between Chapala and Vista de Lago. They specialize in smaller dogs and usually have between 20 and 30 dogs. They also need folks to exercise and train the dogs.

Lakeside Friends of Animals Cat Shelter - located in Riberas, the Cat Shelter has mostly cats and kittens although the occasional dog does show up. (read gets dumped at the shelter) They need volunteers to care for and love the kitties.

Re: Volunteering
I have a dog from Lucky Dog and one from The Ranch. Both are wonderful dogs and a testament to being well cared for and loved. Volunteers do that.
A special plug for The Ranch though. The dog I adopted from there a year ago had been at that shelter for 11 YEARS. Within days of being here it was as though she had lived in a home all her life. She is solid, steady, easy going, calm. She was loved and she always knew it. The volunteers did that. God bless every single one of them.
