Big congratulations to Operación Amor

Post by Flamingo on Sun Nov 06, 2016 9:19 pm

A giant congratulations to Amalia Garcia, Cameron Peters, and the small army of dedicated volunteers who worked at the Operación Amor Spay/Neuter Clinic 4-6 November in Tepehua Chapala. We spayed or neutered 236 dogs and cats in a three day period. This equals our highest previous record set in November of last year. The Clinics are free and designed to reach out to local Mexicans of limited means.

Just think of all the unwanted puppies and kittens that never will be.

Just think what it would be like here if these spay/neuter events didn't happen. It would be an explosion of puppies and kittens. It's a public service for the whole community even if you hate animals, no, ESPECIALLY if you hate dogs and cats. Well done to those who worked so hard on this.

When I first got here, I lived out on the west side at Los Charales and every morning when we came into town the carretera was littered with carcasses. Horses, cows, and many dogs. It was heartbreaking. Pretty soon the livestock had to be on ropes and they stopped being slaughtered by the trucks and buses during the night.

Soon I met Gudrun and learned about her spay/neuter campaign and within a few short years the carnage on the carretera ceased. I credit Gudrun Jones with that 100%.  Now there are so many clinics and so many animals being sterilized and so many people work so hard to coordinate the clinics and keep them running, everyone deserves a lot of credit.

Gudrun, there will be a special place in heaven for you!
