Miscrosft call center

I'm not sure why but every time I am up north, I get a call from a call center located perhaps in India. The Con artist tells me that he is from Microsoft and that Microsoft system is broken and is leaking data.

So he asks me to get in front of my computer. I stall him for a minute or three, and then say, OK my iPad is connected and working, No sir no sir he says, I mean your Microsoft computer. I say oh that is in another room and that I am running windows XP. So I stall him a little longer while pretending to start up my other computer.

Then I say, yes it is running and you are right, I am having problems with it. OK go to the keyboard and enter this and this and give over the command of your computer to him so that he can fix it. A few minutes later when he says I can't connect with you I tell him my problem is with my wireless connection, it doesn't always work.

To make a long story short, I finally tell him, that I will call my son who works for MSFT and he can come by and fix the problem. And the caller hiding his anger hangs up.

What I do not understand is why over the past three years, I keep on getting this call, and how they could believe me as I try to waste their time.

Any ploy to talk to a good friend.  

When I lived in Canada, I used to get those calls at least two or three times every month for about seven years! They just wouldn't give up, even when I continually told them that I had a Mac. And threatening to call the police or phone company didn't deter them either!

And it only got worse AFTER I registered for the "Do Not Call" list that the Canadian government started. WHY? Because the government sold that list to telemarketers! Duh!

So glad that I finally got away from their harassment!

I believe that's done in the US as well.  After all, the telemarketers need to know who not to call.  No doubt, a call center offshore feels they're untouchable by US/Canada law.
