Recent catch in Lake Chapala

Post by Cincy on Thu Mar 09, 2017 12:29 pm

Finally!  A Classic European Mirror Carp!  I've only seen one other carp like this taken from Lake Chapala by a local fisherman near the Ajijic pier.  The fish was in perfect condition and fought extremely hard.  It was taken on tinned sweetcorn and released immediately to growth into a 60 pounder...

A guy and his 2 young sons walked through the Ajijic Plaza this morning hauling the biggest carp I have seen lakeside.  I say "hauling" because one of the young sons, who had it roped over his shoulder, was truly struggling to carry it!  I would estimate it at 24" long and about 10 lbs.  It appeared to be a female ready for spawning.  There was the sound of "Wow!!!" from the people who saw it and maybe a dozen gringos stepped up and took a picture of the boy and fish so it's well documented - somewhere...
