Handicapped sticker for car

Rather than muddle around trying to get a sticker for our car, I though I would reach out to see who might have already done this.
We will be living in Chapala and own our house.
I would also like to be able to paint our curb blue to save a space in front of the house.
Any guidance appreciated! TIA

You can buy a handicapped sticker in a papeleria. Blue paint will get you some courtesy no parking but if you want to enforce it you will need a permit from the municipality.

Can anyone just paint curbs?

As far as I know nobody will stop you.

I just wonder about the "blue" paint and whether it means anything here at all. I do know that a yellow curb means "don't park" at all or you will be ticketed. I kinda learned that one the hard way ;)

I'm not 100% sure about handicapped however you can pay a yearly fee to reserve the curb in front of your house. You paint it yellow and inscribe it with your permit #. If anyone parks there you would have to call the transitos, give them your permit # and they will have it towed. I have seen blue painted curbs with the universal handicapped logo but they didn't look official. I'm sure most people would not park there though.

I think it would be prudent of the OP to find out the rules here for colour of curbs. Being handicapped and finding your parking space taken can create a LOT of problems for the person needing the space.

Or just do it the Mexican way and put a couple of buckets or chairs out in the space you want saved.

Then there's the 'enforcement' issue. Do we even HAVE transitos anymore? I rarely see them and I see an increase in dangerous creative driving these days. Saw a gringa in a colorful VW bug try to take out the poor girl who sells dulces from her card table in the 'right hand passing lane' along La Floresta the other day.

Sometimes there are so many entitled drivers soaring through the WM bus stop lane to avoid a red light that they create their own traffic jam.
