The rainy season begins the 2nd week of June regardless of when we hear "rainbirds."

Climate change started long ago.  There has been no change in the start of the rainy season for many decade.  None. I've seen 13 rainy seasons arrive myself, all in mid-June.

I arrived here first week of April nine years ago. That year and every year since I have heard the hopes and predictions of an early start to the rainy season. Every. Single. Year. And, every year the rainy season begins mid-June. Around the 15th mas y menos. Every. Single. Year.

Many people fret, worry, and stew about what is the official "rainy season".
For me, the first good rain after the 1st of May, starts my "rainy season". lol! ....The end of the drought.
It doesn't have to rain every day for me to get that "rainy season feeling".
Even if there is a week or two lull between rains at first, you just know it's coming even better.
It's like starting slow and building up to a head of steam.

I suspect cicadas (rainbirds) and groundhogs are about equally accurate in predicting weather. In some parts of the world the cicadas also predict the first frost of the year.......

Heard the first chicharra of the season yesterday. It's very early in the year for them to start wailing. Meanwhile, global warming has accelerated. I wouldn't be surprised to find out there is a connection between the two events.

They must be exceptionally horny this year. Look for a bumper crop of chica cicadas in a few weeks.

I've always found that chicatanas ( winged flying ants)were more accurate than cicadas.
80 percent of the time it rained within 3 days of my house being invaded. The cicadas like the hotter weather.

To each his own..

Another thing was earwigs, thousands of earwigs were on the concrete light pole out on my street prior to heavy rains.

Yep!....that's always been my feeling about the rainy season.  It seems that in the last 10 to 15 years around here that people have become so precise about exactly what is or when does it (the rainy season) start.
NOB precision art? or the gambling aspect?

I know the rainy season will be here soon, I saw some people fixing potholes in the neighborhood.

Rather than patch at the END of the rainy season, we patch here JUST BEFORE the rainy season.

Makes sense to me.........

Perhaps it is a sign of a very dangerous mental condition that seems common among residents of la ribera del lago and has caused some to abuse others by arguing every minor point that is posited by board members on this and TOB. There is a cure for this malaise, but it must be actively sought out beyond the physical limitations of the four walls surrounding one‘s keyboard. Boredom can be fatal! Beware!

Ya THINK?
Let's just give it up and have a contest like they do on TOB of who can most accurately name the date when the serious rains begin.

The campesinos ( a group that are among the most affected), start the first part of May with their "sembrando de las milpas", just in case Dios does something early, and are not too concerned with the exact date of the start of the "rainy season",  as the foreigners are.  Any rain will help germinate the seed.
When I told a  campesino friend just east of La Barca of the great interest amongst the foreign community about the "start" he said the rain will come when the time is right and what is the obsession with the exact date.
In other words, if it doesn't rain June 7, 9, 13, or 17, it will rain "manana".
Not as dependable as sunrise and sunset and I wouldn't tear off any roofs after the middle of May.
Have fun with your contest.....not interested. Very Happy (just had to post a Mexican point of view)

June 13th 11 pm. I've heard the first rainbirds of the season in San Juan Cosal this week.
