I had an interesting thought, as to how the U.S. and Canada has to stop the drug flow from Mexico. Well the cartels have now stepped up heroin production. I don't know the veracity of this, but I read that a single tablet, black market, Oxycontin on the street is worth $60, whereas Mexican heroin is $10. The point is - who prescribed/manufactured these opoids, where addictions are now at crisis level, and overdoses are killing thousands of people - it sure wasn't Mexican cartels. They just supply a product which will kill them faster, for a lot less money.

Dreamland by Sam Quinones

Excellent book on how sugar cane growers in a town close to Tepic have revolutionized the marketing of black tar heroin to take advantage of the opioid epidemic in the US.  Very well written and informative.

Naturally the price of a pill of OxyContin depends on the strength. My doctor in Seattle said that the most potent OxyContin contains 80 mg and that on the street a pill costs about one US dollar per mg or the very most potent $80 US per pill.

I don't know how accurate that was, but if it is true that stuff must be to die for, if you are addicted to it. Thank God my addiction is to have at least two cups of caffeinated coffee per breakfast.

I have a hard copy floating around somewhere. If I can locate it quickly I'll save you the coinage.
