Where would I look for a livable rental for 6 months in Chapala are priced in pesos?

I don't mind doing some fixer-up work, maybe in exchange for cheaper rent.

I'm looking to put my D.I.L. and three children up for 180 days.

Real estate people are IMO and experience, worthless for this.

Walk the town and look for the "for rent" signs. Talk with some Mexicans in the plaza.

Look for the bulletin boards around town. I don't know about Chapala proper but around the grocery stores and the plaza is a good start. Ask around, someone will know where they are.

Find a neighborhood that looks good and talk to people on the street. The best deals are always word of mouth and they also know where to avoid.

It might also help if you specify what you are looking for. # of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc and your price point.

Right. 2-3 bdrms, 1 or 1 1/2 bath. Price is open. Maybe semi-furnished with a 6 months lease.

I'll scout as you suggest.
