Earthquake. Empty Re: Earthquake.

Post by brigitte Fri Sep 08, 2017 12:22 pm

Hi Guys we are ok we came back to Ajijic on Tuesday.. left the car at the house so we do not know if we have a house or a car.. or what the damages are.. hopefully none.. but who knows. A block from us the ex convento Santo Domingo was damaged and 2 people were killed in the hill a few km north of us. My cleaning lady has not been able to get to the house because of the traffic mess caused by damages.
Many old churches got damaged, the cathedral in San Cristobal, the San Lorenzo church in Zinacantan, the churches in Teopisca, Amatenango and Comitan were damaged as well. I still have not spoken to people in Venustiano Carranza and I know the coast is a real mess especially Juchitan and the other towns around. Thank god it happened when people were in bed....
It was felt very strongly in the highlands, several people called me around midnight totally scared out of their mind ..Hopefully they will nt find more victims..
Now I am leaving for France on Sunday trying to get away from Katia and Irma when leaving the country so that is my next concern.. the car and house can wait. Thanks for asking.

Whew. Glad to hear you're here, hope the house is standing. Many of your friends will not fare as well, I think.

Cristina was looking for you too, I told her you were here, she's happy.

Quite God' s furry unleashed. We left San Cristobal just in time and now Brigitte is scheduled to fly from Mexico City to Paris Sunday through three hurricanes one of which is of historical note. Glad to be back in Ajijic. Glad not to be on that Air France flight but wishing them well.

Can you believe that tht Trump has not offered any help to Mexico? But The Governor of Texas accepted the offer of help fom Mexico and Mexican troops and supplies are now in Texas helping.

I don't have printable words for my feelings now about Trump.

Mexicans are amazing in a disaster they have their priorities extremely well set.. first it is life.. when everything gets destroyed they thank God no one was killed and then immediately go to work on the cleaning and rebuilding. I have seen it over and over.
They are extremely self reliant and do not expect much from the government and do not sit around waiting for help.
The earthquake wiped out towns on the coast in a horrible way the body count is now 65 and they still digging through destroyed buildings. I was in Juchitan twice in the last 3 weeks and it is hard to see what happened there , I have been in touch with a family of artisans I visited a little town 10 minutes from Juchitán in Ixtepec , they have a lot of damages but no death and they are happy for that . They say they do not know if there are more victims as there are so many buildings that are destroyed..
It is hard to believe the White house did not offer help but if they did not be it.. it reflects on them meanwhile people go on and are picking themselves up..

Can anyone tell me the best way to make a donation to help with earthquake relief. The Red Cross is all about hurricanes.

What Brigitte is not telling you guys is that she moved from Paris to the Alabama coast in the 1970s where she experienced hurricanes first hand and then, at my urging, moved on to San Francisco where she experienced some serious earthquakes over the years. She has lived at Lake Chapala amd in Chiapas for 16 years and earthquakes and hurricanes are to her, yesterday's lunch. She is flying back to Paris to see her 95 year old mother having left San Cristobal de Las Casas just in the nick of time. Left me here to fend for myself.at Lake Chapala, to which we returned from Chiapas just on time. We felt less of a n earth movement here at the lake than one would expect from a couple of shots of tequila.

Good choice. I would never send money to SA or US Red Cross. I send money to Doctors Without Borders but they're probably not working the earthquake.

Next time, Mike. There'll be another one.

Maybe there is some way to donate money specifically for the quake victims.
