Now lots of jet noise in Chapala

Post by MarilynDavis on Sat Oct 14, 2017 4:48 pm

Since the big noisy festivities, which we expect, the jets from DF and points south have a new flight path, flying low into the Guadalajara airport right over the center of Chapala. Does anyone know what has changed? Can you suggest what I can do to try to get them to return to their old path? You can watch the flights here: http://flightaware.com/live/airport/MMGL

When does it get quiet enough to hear them?

Approaching flight paths are usually determined by the wind and other approaching traffic. Sometimes when I come into GDL we fly straight over Guadalajara and directly touchdown from the north. Other times we circle over the lake and come in from the south. I don't believe GDL has added any new runways but they may have added traffic.

They're talking about adding a second runway.

They will and have to add a second runway. At least it won't start sinking upon completion like DF. Guad will become a major air transport hub. It has to.

The jets are so high when they fly over the lake on the way to land that I don't find them that loud.

Very little noise at this height and is for maybe twenty seconds. Very few flights depending on wind and weather.no problem for me and infact never heard anyone else even mention it before.

Planes land into the wind, so the wind direction dictates the approach path.
Yes, the prevailing wind directions are subject to change with the seasons.

My house is on the hill above the plaza and I love to live on my mirador, so for me, it changed from paradise to a bad place. I rather like the music and other busy human noises, but jets really unnerve me.

Yesterday, most of the day they did not fly over us. They flew a little to the east. Huge difference here. Tiny change in their route.

It's not about wind or weather.

Anyone have an idea of where I can find out why this is happening after years of it not happening?

Wind, my dear, which does change direction and dictates the changes in traffic patterns.  That is why it is happening.
What part is confusing you?  It is certainly not a legal issue, so sure doesn‘t belong in this thread.
Beer Have you taken it up with INM yet?

Jet noise is dangerous, really dangerous: Women living under flight paths fare even worse, logging a 93% higher rate of hospitalization with cardiovascular problems, compared with their counterparts in quiet residential areas. The study found that women who are exposed to jet noise (of about 60 decibels) during the day are 172% more likely to suffer a stroke.

This is not the right place to find where to ask for help with this? Where should I ask?

This is definitely not about wind. They land from the same direction in Guad. Their approach to Guad has changed, and just a little bit.

Go to the Miguel Hidalgo International Airport and consult with the Director of Flight Operations. He will explain it to you.

DGAC.........
Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil in Mexico City.
Don't have their phone number but call information in CDM.

I have a decibel meter and the sound of the jets flying over is quite low, much lower than 60 dB. Why? because their approach pattern has then relatively high above us at this point of their approach the airport.

It will be easier to move than it will be to even get ahold of someone who would care at the airport let alone move flight paths because one gringa in Chapala, 20 miles from the airport, is disturbed by it. Just hope they don't move it again over your new place......

Thanks Pete.  I just got a decibel meter app on my phone.  I'll calibrate and see what I get.  I live in the sky here, on a hill.  The study says only 60 db causes almost 3 x the heart troubles in women!  They conjecture that jet noise has something special about it that makes it dangerous to your heart.  With other noise, you just worry about damaging your hearing.

I know it fries my nerves and I am just fine with all the other noise here.  Well, the rockets get annoying.

The airport sent me a very nice reply to the form I filled out.  They gave me contact info for the right authority.

I love it here.  I love the people, the bustle, the life, the music, the noise, the colors, the food, the not-being-in-the-usa.  I speak Spanish.  I play in the local orquesta.

I'll do my best to fix, or at least understand, this before I give up.  It just changed so maybe it's tentative or temporary.

Today I decided to meditate while planes go over.  That might help me.

Probably if I move, I'll move to the flats of Chapala,  and give up my view.

I'm sorry to hear about people who live here and don't like it -- or people who live anywhere they don't like.
