Cuanajo, Michoacan - Wood Furniture

One new spot that we visited during our trip was the town or village of Cuanajo. No more than a 30 minute drive from the center of Patzcuaro, this is one of the many furniture manufacturing centers of Michoacan.

While they are very well known for their brightly painted furniture, we also found carved furniture, traditional styled furniture and some very contemporary furniture. Like many or actually most of the towns and villages in Michoacan, this single art form is the predominant basis for their economy and there are shops and factories that dot the main highway through town and virtually all of the side streets. During our visit, we probably spotted 80 to 100 of these establishments and had we allocated more time, we would have probably found two or three times that number.
