Driver Licenses in Chapala 2 May 2018

Driver's licenses for the state of Jalisco will be issued in Chapala on 2 May 2018.  I went to the small office of the Tránsito Municipal in Chapala this morning.  I took in photo copies of required documents and turned in a receipt showing my license fee has been paid.  I received a reservation number and was directed to go to the auditorium of the "Antigua Presidencia" Centro Cultural building in Chapala on 2 May 2018 at 9:30 a.m. to complete the driver's license application process.

Will they be doing license renewals as well?

Both first time licenses and renewals have been issued at events like this in the past.  However, an advance reservation may be needed for renewals as well.

Is the "small office of the Tránsito Municipal in Chapala" the one I'm familiar with from annual car licensing? The one on Degollado?

The office on Degollado is the office of the Recaudadora.
Perhaps Cerebrozo will post the correct location for you to visit Transito.

The small office of the Tránsito Municipal de Chapala is located on the north side of the main carretera Hidalgo just a few doors west of where the carretera intersects with Av. Francisco Ingacio Madero.

Across the street in the yellow building. They have a sign strung over top of the doorway.

And usually a transito or two hanging around out front....

Wow. You can pre-up with a reservation or number and everything? Progress. My license has been expired for several months and I gave up on the local crapshoots based on previous "events". Assumed I'd be going to Guadalajara whenever next convenient. I better giddy up on over there with my impressive pieces of paper.

I think the problem has been that they give out a reservation number but still may not get to you. A few people reported this the last time they came to town.
