In Mexico the girl needs to be 18 so I do not get the cracks about 14.. If you are married legally in Mexico call the US consulate , they will tell you how to register your marriage in the states.. of course if you divorce that means you will have to get a divorce or do the paperwork for both countries as well.
I am French and married in the US and registered my marriage at the French consulate in New Orleans..Simple enough.

The question was two-fold. First he wanted to know if his done in Mexico marriage to a none-U.S./non-Mexican grown woman needed to be registered in the U.S. For some reason that caused him to wonder if you married a 12-year-old in a country where it was legal would it be recognized in the U.S. It was purely idle curiosity and academic pondering, because what old man doesn’t wonder about marrying a 12-year-old child?

Funny I never ponder about marrying a 12 year old boy no matter how old and feeble I am. Very Happy

I know, Brigitte. But apparently we lack, uh, um, academic curiosity. Or something.

I can't remember being 12, but something came up a couple of years later, and got my attention. It created a persistent problem for the next several years, but was eventually resolved by the acquisition of a charming wife upon reaching maturity. Things were different, way back then; but we managed.

I married young, but at least I was legal to vote.

Lady O, everyone is different. Yes, I have a thirst for knowledge and information, on just about everything.

If I see a Word I don't know, I look up the meaning. If I read something in a news story, often I will fact check it just because I want to know. I have taken classes in the World's Great religions, first to learn, and second so that if I talk about any of them, I can speak with direct knowledge, not something off a board or Facebook. I have a fascination with medicine, so when a friend of mine said she had Type 2 diabetes, I learned about it from the Mayo Clinic, PubMed and other sources. Usually, one question leads to another and I look for answers, knowledge.

As to the question about a 12-year old bride, that seemed from a question I had on U.S. Constitutional law.

Without looking at Google, can you tell me why the Mormons "abandoned" polygamy? Can you tell me who owned the Alamo when it was attacked? Can you tell me why the low back, L4-5, S1" is the weakest part of the skeletal system of humans?

In my opinion, 'There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action (Goethe). Ignorance means lack of knowledge.

Other than in school, no one is forced to learn things. I enjoy learning anything and everything I can. I make no apologies about that. What you want to read into it, that's your prerogative.

That is a long, convoluted response to some simple, facetious commentary. Seems like a waste of energy, but it is your prerogative.

Post by Problem Child Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:47 pm

A couple of days ago I saw an article online from one of the news services that coincidentally was about my initial question.

"Over the past few decades, the United States government approved thousands of requests by men to bring in child or adolescent bides to live in the country, according to newly collated federal data.

In one of those cases, a 49-year-old man applied to admit a 15-year-old child bride into the US.

These application approvals are legal. The are no set minimum age requirements under the Immigration and Nationality Act. And as for spouse and fiancees petitions, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) determines their application decisions based on whether the marriage in question is legal in the country of origin, and if it would be legal in the state where the petition resides."

Would I want a 12 year old bride? HELL NO!

When I cam down here alone 14-years ago, I asked my R.E. lady if she knew and "eligible" Mexican ladies who spoke English. She said was I looking for a "young" girl? I told her, not at all. I was them 65 and I said I wanted in the 45+ plus range. My only restriction was a line in the sand of no smoking.

Of course I can understand why many "old" men would want a young, nubile female, however when the newness of that young body wore off, what to do then? Help them with their homework?

To each their own.

Problem Child now wants to know what an old man could do with a 12-year-old when he is finished using her body? He wants to have a conversation about it. He is looking for knowledge, answers. It is not like he is some sort of perv.

It was a comment in the from of a rhetorical question.

A person with your education should know that.

Based on your use of words, ability to spell and sentence structure, I would ventura guess your education level is either some college level degree or at least some college credits.

Remember, knowledge does not always equate to smart, nor does it have anything to do with personality.

And we do know that an I.Q. score does not measure intelligence, only intelligence potential.

No you didn't say that, but certainly you know what it means.

The "principle of the thing" could also be using "thing" as a reference to the intangible situation as a whole: the writer stopped people from doing something due to some principle which applied to the situation. The word "thing", in an intangible sense, is sometimes used vaguely or loosely by English speakers.

Maybe it's more cogently said that it means your belief in what is right/wrong is more important than the subject.

Rosa Parks put herself potentially in harms way because she believed in the principle that all people were equal without regard of color. Standing up for what she believed was important to her. She could have easily stood up and walked a few feet to the back of the bus, but she chose to stand up, or in this case, stay seated, for what she believed was proper.

I have to believe that you, as an educated person, have some things/beliefs that you will stand up for even if the "cost" is greater than the value of the thing. Maybe the value is in your own self-image, or self-respect.

I hope I got my idea across.

Thanks.

I would say "can be" rather than "is."

Sometimes little things are important:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
