MEXICAN WILLS NEED FINGERPRINTS? Empty MEXICAN WILLS NEED FINGERPRINTS?

Post by gringal Fri May 07, 2010 2:01 pm

A local man died recently and a few days later, I was chatting with his friend/neighbor who was there during his last day. She told me that the family discovered that his fingerprints had to be on the Mexican will or it would not be valid. They did obtain them before he died. What an awful time to be trying to deal with this, but that's what happened.

Our wills were done in another Mexican state and have all manner of official seals and stamps, but no fingerprints on them. Is this required in all Mexican states, or just in Jalisco or ???

If the will is not done by a notary then a handwritten holographic will is acceptable subject to certain requirements, one is for the party's fingerprints to be on every page. This will can even be valid in English.

Thanks. Maybe I didn't hear all the details in the situation I described.

Our wills were done with a Notario; multiple stamps and alla that. We even had to hand write part of them. PITA, but hopefully, legal as all get out.
