Does anyone know whether it's legal or not to have passengers in the back of a pick-up in Jalisco?

No, it's not. There is a seat belt law, so where your set belts while driving to avoid a fine.

As far as I know the seat belt law only extends to those in the front seats of the vehicle not the back, so riding in a PU is OK.

That's the impression I had too Bob,it's certainly a common pratice,if Spencer is out there maybe he knows.
We're going to a Lienzo Charro tomorrow and there's no way we're all going to fit in the front.

We asked our contractor a few years back and he said they were supposed to have a permit for the number of potential (LOL) bodies they had packed into the pickup bed. Gotta admit having to wear a seatbelt or face fine under these situations....CRACKS ME UP!.....not to mention 5 on a motorbike.

Give me a break...of course we all see how many people they have in the back of pick ups here...
By the way...the first question on the drivers test was...(In Ajijic the written part)
How many people can be in the back of a pick up truck?

A. 9
B. If they have health insurance no limit
C.As many that can sit down in the truck.

The only person that has to wear a seatbelt is the driver.

I don't think that's correct.
