Bob, Don't run the risk of buying a Chihuahua in Mexico! You may get lucky, however breeders in Mexico can't be trusted! You might get lucky, but most are inbred.....to the detriment of the breed. My suggestion, as I know how much you guys enjoyed Diego.......Find a breeder NOB, and bring your pet home! I know...none of my BIZ! Spend a few extra bucks! I checked google, and the average life span is 12-14 years! $80.00 per year is a cheap price to pay vs. a puppy mill, knowing the affection you guys gave to Diego!

That's some of the best advice you'll ever get. Good job, Jim.

Don't buy a pup out of the newspaper. Look on the web for a breed club which will almost certainly have a list of breeders. Breed clubs often have a Code of Ethics that breeders are held to.

Another good place to meet breeders is at dog shows. If a breeder is turning out nice pups they're eager to have them judged against other nice dogs.

If you're really lucky you may know somebody who knows somebody who has just bred your dream litter. Good luck.

Good breeders will want to ask you as many questions as you will want to ask them. Google "Questions to ask puppy sellers".

If the breeder is eager to sell to the first person with the money you can find a better breeder.

Unless you just gotta be a saviour don't ever take the pup that you feel sorry for. You'll have this pup for a long time, stack the deck in your favor.

We found one from an ad in a store window. He is excatly what we were looking for. We named him Chico. He is 10 weeks old, 1lb 11oz. The vet gave him a clean bill of health.

Here he is getting his first, greatly needed, flea bath.

We bought him privately from a Mexican woman whose female had 5 puppies. She had an ad in a store window. We met the mother and saw pictures of the father. The mother was one of the friendliest Chihuahua's we have ever seen. She never barked once and came running right over to be petted when we arrived to look at the puppies. That sealed the deal for us as we really like our dogs to be social.

She still has 3 more Chocolate/Beige ones if anyone is interested.

Jaja......yes, ours is referred to as an "Apple-Head". The apple-heads have the round head and shorter snouts. The other type are called "Deer-Head". They have the oblong heads and longer snouts.

And IMO, I think the "apple heads" are the cutest. Also, the breed is not applehead vs, deerhead. It is wshort hair vs. long hair. That's the breed difference.

The prettiest of all is the red mask Bordeaux dogue of Mattoleriver, we had two of these when we came and they are the most wonderful dogs, we now have rescue chihuahuas and xolos that are nice too but I miss the Bordeaux´s.

We just saw this darling, little puppy, so small and so adorable. A great color with the softest coat of fur. I would be so scared of stepping on him. To give an idea of sixe, he doesn't even span one twelve inch floor tile.

Thanks, Brigitte, that's my Bubba, long gone for many years. I think that this is an example of beauty being in the eye of the beholder though all who met him agreed that he had a beautiful soul.
