Not knowing or wanting to know anything about myself customizing cars - I do wonder why you chose to have started with one that appears to be in such good shape?

One of the most important things with a project like this one is that the floor pan and center part of the body need to be rust free as they act like the backbone when the roof is removed. That being said you need to find one in good shape. And even at that we are welding in more structural beams. This VW wasn't bad for a 25 year old car however it was by no means pristine. It does also have a freshly rebuilt motor.

I did pass on a few that were way too nice to chop apart.

I don't know why some can see it and some can't. I'll try to figure it out.

VW Things are too boxy and not the look I am going for.

Just got it out of the body shop. They did an awesome job. Very pleased. Now I just have to get the flames air brushed on, put on the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, get the upholstery done, add a roll bar, bumpers and running boards.

No fenders. It is staying the matt black that you see above. Soon there will be bright red flames on the hood and red interior. Then some rims and tires.

It is supposed to be a special matt black arcylic that is formulated for the old street rod look. I guess time will tell. If not, I'll get it painted again for another $3000 pesos.....jajaja. Besides blending and touch ups are a breeze.

The work was done here by a little shop a few doors east of Car City in Riberas. The owner speaks English. I was very happy with the quality of their work. They had never done this before and simply worked off my pictures and drawings.

I just met a local fellow who has a VW wrecking yard and parts shop in upper Riberas. He has many old VW's on site including a fully restored 1953 Beetle. He does high performance engines and custom work as well. He showed me an engine he had that was all ported and cammed up with a Chevy carb on it. I am going to get him to make my roll bar and possibly some custom running boards.

Great looking car! Hmmm, black with painted flames...I can visualize painted horns on the roll bar and a painted pronged tail on the rear...and calling her La Diablita.

I can build you one if you want. You can pick the color of the exterior and interior, and the rims and tires. If you supply me a running VW it will run you about $4500 USD for all the body mods, paint, upholstery, light accessories, tires/rims, roll bar and my labor to tear it apart and put it all together. If you want me to supply the VW it will run you about $6500.00 USD.

Fully insurable and street legal. Way better than an ATV or Goof-Cart.
