Chapala FM3 renewals now being done

Post by Intercasa on Tue Nov 13, 2012 1:55 pm

Hi, we just received some good news. We can start tomorrow turning in renewals of FM2 and FM3s. Fees are higher but we can do it without any financial information. You may renew your document for 1, 2, 3 or 4 years. This will be for the residente temporal immigration document.

For the time being if you have time then come in ASAP and we can renew your FM3 under the new system.

This will be for the residente permanente immigration document.

Perhaps you meant to write residente temporal.

Yes, goofed but corrected it. At least we can start processing people who have a valid FM3 or FM2 and nobody will have to make a run for the border! Great news!

No news on residente permanente nor who can have a car here. People should come in soon to get their stuff done before the Christmas vacation time and the mad rush of others turning stuff in, they have had a week off, not accepted new papers so the first ones in should be done fast.

If we apply prior to expiration and denied will our existing FM3 continue until expiration?

Does that depend on which renewal your current visa is on? I'm on my first renewal so assume I can only get 2 more

We aren´t sure if they will count prior years towards permanent, you can always renew for 1 year and then see if you can jump ahead next year.

spenser, "1,2,3, or 4yr" renewal (fm3). are the fees the same? dosnt it make sense just to renew for several years? & there isnt a fee list. i assume we would still need new photos each year? it is vaque.

Yes, you do save some money doing multi year renewals. Yes new photos each year. Fees are much higher, government fees are over $3,000 pesos so some maay not do multi year as it will cost like over $8,000 pesos to do 4 years.

Of corpse Rolly, but to prove death they need to bring you there so be cremated as you will be easier to carry to the office to apply for a refund.

for fm3 renewals: wouldnot surprise me if they change the law once again after the president is in. yes, your are correct, best to do one year @ a time, another good lawyer said that as well. @least there is no statements needed, & i hope they dont retract that.

Story from Manzanillo - not me
---------------------------
We renewed our FM3 (in our case now called a temporary resident visa)today. Here's our experience:

The Good: You can re-new for 1-4 years. The good part is that if you re-new for 4 years, for example, you don't need to go back to INM for 4 years. The number of years you can re-new for depends on how many years left in your 5-year re-newal period. We were re-newing for the first time in our seconnd 5-year cycle (i.e., our 7th year) so were able to get a maximun 3-year renewal. I think this means that, for example, you were renewing for the third time ever, you could get a Visa term of one or two years, your choice.

The Bad: The cost of a Visa is almost triple from the old system. A single year re-newal is 3130 pesos, up from around 1300 pesos. There is a cost savings to go longer term. A 3-year re-newal is 5940 pesos, a significant savings.

The Ugly: It took us 3 hours to get processed. This was not volume, nor was it that they did not know what they were doing. Maybe there were too many questions to answer. And nobody walked out with a card .... you will have to return to pick it up. Our advice? Go early or go late ... they open at 9:30 and close at 1:00.

What do you need to re-new? The usual photos, the usual 3-month income verification, your old card, and current passport. Don't worry about downloading and filling in the form. They do this right on the computer.

Does getting an FM 2 under the old laws still exempt you from 30% Capital Gains tax?

Supposedly notarios will respect the FM2 under the old law and (not yet confirmed after the change) and will then upon renewal accept the residente permanente.

NEW UPDATE: You can only do the renewals until the end of your original FM3 time and at that time you must go to Residente Permanente and qualify financially.

What is Resident Permanente and how much is needed for a Homeowner to qualify next year for FM 2 renewal?

Do you really mean "FM-3" the old book, or the more recent NO-INMIGRANTE card?

If our FM3 was issued January 1, 2011 with the renewal January 1, 2012... When is the end date? Thank you.

I think not. You have a NO-INMIGRANTE Credencial, not an FM3. They went away a couple of years ago. As I understand it, if you apply BEFORE your card expires you can get Residente Temporal for up to 4 years. In other words, don't fall out of the system or you start from scratch.

NEWS FLASH - Immigration today says that if end of 5 years on FM3 no inmigrante is up then you need to leave the country. I am asking if the person can go for permanente.

if the person does not have the qualifications for permanent (fm2), will they be deported? what about all the elderly here? what about people who can not travel? there are people also in assisted care, etc etc. there are people who have lived here 10-20 yrs, on FM3 renewals. do all these people have to go "underground"??

"Everyone else" is saying you get your 4 renewals and then are forced to go permanent if you qualify. If you don't qualify then it's leave the country and start over. Mazatlan has done that very thing in at least one case
