Opthamologist Empty Opthamologist

Post by ferret Fri Jan 18, 2013 9:28 pm

I believe I've found the one that I want to continue using. She is Dr. Monica at the Dermika Clinic...the Opthamologist...not to be confused with the Dermatologist of the same name at the same clinic.
I developed a "Floater" on Wednesday. You think it's something hanging off one of your eyelashes or a bug and you swat at it...I can't possibly explain the gales of laughter and uncontrollable giggles that hubby and I went through in the car (parked fortunately) as I tried to fix this annoying problem. I bought an eyewash and dutifully rinsed every couple of hours and finally hit the computer for answers.

I only have one eye that works properly and my floater decided to set up residence in it. My biggest worry was a possible detached retina.
Dr. Monica gave me a thorough examination which included checking the retina in both eyes. Perfectly healthy. She also has (drumroll please) the PROPER equipment for checking glaucoma and the medicated pressure in both eyes is fine. After doing the eye chart for her records, we sat down to chat.
It will probably dissolve on its own in a few days. Try not to let it bug you and don't concentrate on it and try not to follow it around as it dances around in your line of sight. I got a prescription for some "eye" vitamins that are taken orally to boost eye health for the next month.
This report is not to tell you what to do. It is to describe to you a problem WHICH MUST BE CHECKED OUT IMMEDIATELY BY A QUALIFIED OPTHAMOLOGIST to determine what the cause is. Your eyesight is precious, please take care of it.

Why? I'm ignoring John's posts. ;)

Thanks. I will get it checked but it's usually below normal...still, ya never know.

Am thinking more clearly this morning. The Retina would have shown damage if I had high blood pressure. Retinas are in good health so high blood pressure is not the cause or a potential problem.

I keep hearing good things about the eye care that recently became available at Dermika.

Also, I've had lots of floaters before. They are weird, aren't they? The strangest part is how, if you change your line of sight quickly, they sort of drag themselves over in that direction in slow motion. Just like a slow moving, slightly inebriated insect that's having trouble flying. They come and go. I've never worried about them.

Thank you for the detailed topic and recommending Dermika. I'm not sure if even Dr. Pinto has that good an eye machine.
