Don't see a tech section so ....

I've been happy with Yahoo Voice but it's being discontinued the end of this month. Google Voice requires Vista or above ... and Microsoft uses Skype. Other suggestions other than Skype

Majic jack and nettalk plug directly into telmex/telecable router/hub modem.
Plug your phone into the phone jack on the box no computer needed. Won't
work if you only have wifi access.

Been using NetTalk Duo for two years now and bought five years worth of service
at a very good price. Majic jack has same kind of thing now.

Well I have XP so can't use Google .... and I have a Telcel USB modem so Majic Jack is out

Skype will probably work, 800 #'s are free and I know a few people on Skype

We'll see if I get my $8.03 credit back from Yahoo ;)

I've used Skype for years and am happy with it.
I do wish it had a volume control. The audio level is pretty hot.

We switched from skype to Tango some time ago because I don't think skype is ever going to truly support portable devices. IMO Tango rocks!! I’m can’t speak on PC to "phone" charges though as we are just PC/smartphone to PC/smartphone.

It does, Rolly.

On the Skype calling page, go to the tab at the top marked "Tools", then click "Options", then click "Audio Settings", then you can adjust either your speakers/headset, as well as your microphone settings, and then click "Save" at the bottom of that page.

OOVO has been around for a long time and works quite well as a Skype replacement. You can Video chat with a buncha people at one time, too. They have mobile app versions; you can send IMs and files, too. I tested it out when Skype was screwing up on my PC.
