Canada's Greatest Athlete

That was what he called himself, others called him the meanest man in Canada - pro wrassler Gene Kiniski. Here is an old interview which I found to be entertaining.

Gene Kiniski and his son used to own a bar in Point Roberts, Washington called The Reef. It was just across the BC/US border and we used to party up a storm there on Sundays when there was no Sunday drinking allowed in BC.

Gene's brother, Julian, was the weatherman on CFRN TV in Edmonton in the early 50's when it was the first and only station in town. He was also a big guy and sometime wrassler himself. I'll never forget an exhibition bout he had with Normie Kwong, star Eskimo running back (and later, Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta).

Gene's mother, Julia, was a long-time battling Edmonton city counselor. I guess the fighting spirit ran in the family!
