Need Referral for Broker at Laredo for Nationalizing a NAFTA Auto

Post by joyfull on Wed Aug 28, 2013 6:06 pm

Have had S&S Auto working on nationalizing our NAFTA auto. Now it seems there maybe some problems in getting it done from here. Not exactly sure what the problem is as they are currently on vacation. We are thinking of taking it to Nuevo Laredo to have it done. We are looking for broker referrals from those who did it and were happy with the experience. Also, have heard it is more expensive there than Nogales. Just hate the extra drive and figure the gas & tolls may make it just as expensive as being ripped off in Nuevo Laredo. Blackeye

I think the airport may be cheaper...........

Mid June, I had an appointment with ramon Grupo Cuevas for 9 am in Laredo on June 18.  Ramon did speak English.  Finished about 3 pm - All in all, it was easy.  Not sure how much cheaper it would be then doing it locally – by the time you add tolls, gas and at least two nights in hotel rooms.  My total cost for my 2001 Nissan was $1410.  And I still need to purchase plates (which I did locally - costs were 2916p + I used Spencer' servuces so add another 1500p.

Broker was RAMON ANDRADE info@... Grupo Cuevas

So add up your costs - and compare to those getting plates at the airport

Is that $1410 USD or pesos? What was total cost in pesos including plates and registration in Jalisco? Thanks.

We just did our 2004 Ford Freestar. We used Grupo MCA, our contact was Claudia Gonzalas, the total cost was $1340.00 for the nationalization, $100.00 for their employee to take the car to Mexico and do the paper work there. $40.00 for the permit to drive the car to Jocotepec. There was no problem at all, and it took 2 days.

The nationalization had to be paid in dollars - $1410.  The plates had to be paid in pesos - 2916p and that will vary - depends on your make model.  Plus, I wasn't about to drive cross town in (dark) early morrning to the other side of Guadalajara - plus my spanish sucks - so I did use Spencer's services - and here are my comments from that experience:

Met Luis (his employee) at Soriana's at 5:30 - and another car joined us - and off we went to Tesistan. Arrived there about 6:45 am - still dark - and my car was given number 63. There are a number of inspections that need to take place - basically all the cars are lined up - and the inspectors just go from car to car doing something with your paperwork. (Spencers office took care of making sure I had correct paperwork with me and the requisite copies in the requisite  order)

Once done, probably at 9 am - then went to wait to pay. And waited. And
waited. And waited. It was probably 11:30 before they started calling
todays numbers - and we were probably out of there by 1 ish- (so always
bring a book unless you are just into people watching.)

The cost for the plates was 2916p - and I arrived back in Ajijic about 2.
I thought the person from Spencer's office - Luis - did an excellent job
and am glad he was available to go with me.

So total cost was $1410 US Dollars to have the car nationalized in Laredo

plus 2916 p for Jalisco plates

and an optional 1500 p for Luis' service.

So if you want to drive to Laredo to nationalize your car - figure tolls, gas, food, and hotel plus the cost to nationalize.  My appointment was at 9 am and was able to leave 3 ish - made it to Matehuala that night just after dark - so second hotel - and return gas, tolls, food.  Then you have to get your plates - which means you need to be an early bird - and leave here by 5:30 am and drive to Tesistan and spend all morning there - plus the cost of your plates which will vary - mine were 2916p -

I think the costs are going to be a wash - based on a few prices I have seen for having your car nationalized at the airport - so check it out.  I was returning from the US, so it was a no brainer to nationalize in Laredo.  I am not so sure you are saving money by going to and from Laredo just to nationalize your car.
