Nothing lasts. Facebook will eventually go the way of MySpace and be replaced by the next new thing.

Do we all have to start learning how to tweet?

Figures...by the time I figure out how to use it...it will be history.

I came late to facebook and only really started to use it once I moved here - really, just as a way of staying in touch. I am on it everyday but of late I have been noticing that I like it less and less - it is becoming more of a promotional device than a valid communications tool. I think as soon as a viable alternative starts to be accepted by more users (Google+, maybe?) facebook will go the way of myspace.

The only time I used facebook was to visit Juan de Uruguay's page.

i use it more than fora. both my kids use it.

I use Facebook every day. I have made many new cyber friends with it as well as reestablishing contact with old friends I have not seen in years.

Facebook may lose many subscribers, but may keep the ones who realize it's like having a bathroom with transparent walls and who don't mind a bit.

And yes Rolly posts a lot of very interesting material on Facebook as well. I greatly enjoy his (your) posts.  I use Facebook to keep in track of relatives and friends and to read the entertaining posts on/in my account.

The nice thing is, if you are not interested, you just pass the link (and/or picture/URL) by and look at the next post.

I don't use Facebook, I just copy everything direct to the NSA.

Before Facebook dies, something will have to come along to replace it.
For myself, it allows me to keep in touch with/hear about/share with, my friends and family in a world where not everybody lives around the corner (as opposed to where I grew up, where most people were within walking distance and nobody had a phone).
It has it's shortcomings, but show me something better before you dance on the grave.   

I agree Zen. I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I just hope by the time its replacement shows up I am not too old and senile to learn how to use it.

On TV last night it was said that a quarter of the Worlds population were directly or indirectly connected with (10 year old) facebook

Three quarters of World pop' has at least 1 TV.

Narcissists display an over-inflated sense of self-importance. They exhibit superiority while viciously commenting upon and criticizing others. Because they are inwardly fragile, they belittle and insult others as they attempt to boost their own poor self-esteem.
I have seen this behavior much more often on web boards than Facebook.

Narcissists on Facebook

Looking through my Friend list on Facebook, I saw three people I would say exhibit definite narcissistic behavior as this article describes it. There may be a couple more who lean in that direction. But, by far, the rest are using Facebook to stay in touch with family and friends. They offer support and share things of interest to other people a lot and seldom virtually shout,"Look at me! Look at me!"
I do not dispute that social networks attract narcissists but your suggestion that everyone who is on Facebook is a narcissist. Of course, now I will be paying closer to attention to the nature of everyone´s posts (including my own) in light of this discussion.
