What an eye opener Empty What an eye opener

Post by dogperson Wed Jan 29, 2014 9:20 am

I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with one of the Chapala policemen. We discussed the 24 hour shifts that the police have.

He told me (and I have been lied to by the Chapala police in the past so believe it or not) that for a 24 hour shift they earn 300 pesos, do the math and that is less then a $1 US an hour. This also explains a lot more to me.
Why they take bedding and large duffle bags with them on a shift - they are allowed to sleep on the job, which I have difficulties understanding, being asleep on any job is the next best thing to not being there. It is common for them to sleep in the police vehicles outside the station over night. Imagine that NoB.
He also told me that because of their poor wages that many of them are there for the good times and fun involved which explains an awful lot, no mention of how they make extra "tips".

I believe someplaces in the US(NOB), firefighters are allowed to sleep on their shifts, or used to be.

More to the point: do you want someone who has been awake for 23 hours responding to your emergency?

The firefighters in Canada have to keep quite during the night, while on standby...or the neighbours complain.

So are you saying, it is OK for them to sleep, while on their 24?  I don't imagine they all sleep at one time.
Kind of like an army barracks near a front.
