Double murder robbery in La Floresta?

santacci, do you have any more information on that? "2 hours ago" doesn't say when unless we know when it was posted on Twitter.

I was witness to/involved in an armed robbery attempt on 16th of Septiembre around 12:15pm today. This involved an American woman being robbed of her purse by a young Mexican male, maybe around 20, who had a knife.

I do not think this has anything at all to do with what happened in La Floresta.

I don't know. I called the police while my friend chased the kid with the purse. The kid dropped the purse and the woman got it back.

The emergency police number in Chapala was busy (!!!) for five minutes. I kept thinking I was dialing my cell phone wrong in the adrenaline rush of the moment (my friend and I had stopped the kid....which is when I saw the knife. Then my friend chased after him).

I finally got through to the Police via Ajijic, and they arrived in two minutes. I gave them a description of the kid (around twenty years old, black shirt with white numbers on it). When I returned five minutes later in my car (to go look for my friend to see if he was okay), the police had a 45-year-old man in the back of the truck. (WTF???) At least he had a black shirt on.

I made it clear to the police that this wasn't the guy, so they quickly let him go. My friend arrived back a few minutes later. He had chased the kid down the lake and then up to El Torito, but the kid got away. I have no idea what, if anything, the police did after that.

Don't know if the American woman plans to report it or not. I will probably see her tomorrow, as she's offering to pay for my friend's sunglesses, which got broken in the skirmish. I'll try to remember to ask her.

Yes, but although a military presence might make us all feel better it also might drive the real criminals underground or out of here completely. THAT will feel nice for a little while but I'd rather see them caught and dealt with rather than merely chased away.

I dunno. Coin toss, really. Temporary versus more permanent fix? I might be Pollyanna here.

It's a moot point. The military is busy in Michoacan.

IMHO they're rarely caught, and even then not really "dealt with."

We need descriptions of the vehicles stolen so we can actually look for them.

The vehicles were abandoned and recovered shortly after I believe.

A body is found buried in the Sonoran desert. Was he murdered, or was he some asshole who the police KNEW was guilty but against whom they knew they had no chance of conviction? So, instead of contributing to the clearance rate he becomes another unsolved murder.

Today my boyfriend was at Azteca bar and the Federal police were there showing a picture of a man to the workers and asking if anyone has seen this man. Of course, the people there were not going to give them any information if they had it, because no mexican trusts the police here.

They should posts it here. We would totally rat him out.

There was just a long feature story on Televisa with interviews with the police captain and the President of Chapala. They talked about the couple that was just killed and then the focus was that there have been seven foreigners murdered in the last four years and that members of the foreign community are easy targets because most are older. The prez said that the foreign community and tourism are vital to the economy of Chapala and extensive efforts were being made to find the killers and to make Chapala safer in general. It was a 12-13 min piece , easy.

I read some of the comments. Many are just ignorant, but so many Canadians and Americans are already afraid to travel to Mexico, something like this just confirms their fears.

Just heard (not verified a second time) that the police have two suspects in custody.
Hope it's so...hope they have the right ones...time will tell.
