Living in Ajijic Centro?
Hi, everyone.....newbie here ....
I've been looking at a little house about a block or so from the Plaza and wondered if there were folks on this forum that live around there. I understand it's noisy but that doesn't bother me so much. I don't have a car so occasional street closings don't worry me either.
If any of you would like to talk to me about the area, I would love it!
Thx...Harpy.....

I don't live that close to the plaza but I'm an easy walk of 4-5 blocks away. I love living in this town. If you could be a little more specific on what your questions are you could probably get more direct information.
Re: Living in Ajijic Centro?
I live in Centro (16 de Septiembre) and it is surprisingly quiet. I also don't have a car here so the downtown location is great - 90% of what I need is within easy walking distance and the bus out to Wally World costs 8 pesos (each way) and goes about every 30 minutes.

Thx, Papa and Axixic, for the responses. I really liked the area when I was there a couple of months ago.

Harpy - ask away anything you want to know about living Centro and, when you get here, hit the Hotel CasaBlanca bar (Bogart's) to meet LOTS of people who live in Centro and can tell you whatever you want to know. It is a GREAT community.

We like living in centro, also. But we're about five blocks from the plaza to the east. Our area seems really quiet to us (relatively, based on other people's complaining.) Not being a slave to a car is a great luxury. But we also have a car, and definitely use it for convenience. Still, it's great to have the option of walking. Totally different (and better) experience in our opinion, if you can swing it.

I find it hard to believe a "good" rental could be found in central Ajijic. Good means reasonable rent, decent privacy and very little loud music any night of the week
Re: Living in Ajijic Centro?
It all depends on your noise tolerance and privacy needs. I admit I would hate it but after 11 or 12 o'clock, I much prefer to choose my own music. I prefer fireworks at a distance and fewer dogs barking. But living in more rural areas means cars are a necessity and I do miss walking to the market. I would try for a 6 month lease in case the noise level makes your crazy.

Easy peasy. We built one on a quiet street a block from the lake. No buses, no noisy neighbors, no loud music and complete privacy.
No problem.

Re: Living in Ajijic Centro?
I know you say you're tolerant to noise. How long did you stay when you were there? We went for 2 weeks and the noise almost drove me over the edge (though I'm not that far from it
For proximity, Ajijic Centro is great without a car though there are a LOT of great shopping, restaurants and activities in other areas, like Chapala.
It's a personal choice; I prefer to live where there are less roosters which don't only squawk in the morning' it's ALL day. That was a learning experience. haha
Good luck either way.

Re: Living in Ajijic Centro?
Other than during a full blown "cohete firing" fiesta it is actually quite quiet down on 16th de Septiembre calle. The noise travels up hill. There are also no buses running up and down the street.
Zed lived on Zaragoza, one block from the plaza. He said it was quite noisy there. Comments Zed?

Re: Living in Ajijic Centro?
Thanks, everyone. I wonder why the bus seems to make so much noise? I know the streets are bumpy but you all make them sound like tin cans rattling along...lol! How often do they go around the village?
BTW..when I was visiting I was in upper La Floresta and there were roosters crowing there, too...they must be everywhere! That and fireworks all day...I got used to it after a couple days.
....snowed again last night so I need to go out and shovel soon...sigh...I really miss Mexico...
