What are you reading?
I'm a reader and would be interested to know what books other forum members are reading or would like to recommend.
I just finished (Legacy of Ashes) a well written history of the CIA and have started reading (Country Driving,a Chinese Road Trip) so far it's very entertaining.

I am reading "Saving Fish From Drowning" by Amy Tan. Picked it up at Magana´s book exchange and am really enjoying it. It is typical Amy Tan: well researched and written, wonderful characters, complex and lyrical.

Re: What are you reading?
I just finished "Dylan", the autobiography by Bob Dylan that chronicles the early part of his career. Interesting and fun read. Now I'm reading something called, "No Angel". At least a think that's the title. It's a memoir about an undercover ATF agent who infiltrates the Hell's Angels. It's not much of a book, but a friend was giving books away and I thought it'd be an interesting look into a couple of subcultures I know nothing about. After that I'll read the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Issacson, which I'm really looking forward to reading.
Guess I'm on a biography bender.

US already third world economy: American economist
“America is in the toilet, and the rest of the world knows it,” he wrote, noting, “More small businesses close, as memberships decline in golf clubs, as more university graduates return home to live with their parents, who are drawing down their savings to live.”
A prominent American economist says the United States has already become a Third World economy as the world superpower continues to offshore its gross domestic product (GDP).
“America is in the toilet, and the rest of the world knows it,” he wrote, noting, “More small businesses close, as memberships decline in golf clubs, as more university graduates return home to live with their parents, who are drawing down their savings to live.”
“With the world moving away from using the dollar to settle international accounts, as the Federal Reserve prints more dollars, the rate at which foreign holders of dollar assets sell off their holdings will rise,” wrote Roberts.

I am working my way thru Niall Ferguson and it will take a year. I am also looking for a more liberal author on similar topics. It's all about perspective with these topics. If you have a suggestion for an author with a contrasting viewpoint let me know.
I am also continuing my Regency historical romance love affair (which my husband fondly refers to as my "Duke" books) because the stories are entertaining and the character development surprisingly thorough.

Re: What are you reading?
I am finishing Judy King's "Living at Lake Chapala" book (well worth reading even if you've lived here a while) and reading another John Sandford. Every 30 pages or so I find a sentence or three that are so wonderful I reread them several times. Not bad for a mystery.

Re: What are you reading?
I just picked up one that I missed 40 years ago: The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
When I finish this I'll reread an old favorite: The Sot-Weed Factor
I rarely read fiction so it is odd that I'm taking this little detour.

Re: What are you reading?
While I was a prolific reader growing up in foreign countries without TV or much in the way of current news publications, I find myself going in streaks with reading books these days and it is mostly not. On the other hand, Kathy is a prolific reader who initially turned her nose at the concept of reading a book on a Kindle. Well, that became an addiction and since the first Kindle - she has "consumed" over 400 books. I have Kindle on my PC and I find myself downloading cookbooks.

Re: What are you reading?
400 on Kindle beats me at "only" about 150. My sister, who has never read a print book, has over 300 on Kindle. She takes hers everywhere she goes.
Re: What are you reading?
Here's a kindle story,my father in law is retired and lives in a little ranchito in Guanajuato,he likes to read but books are scarce there,he bought an Android tablet and I downloaded the Kindle app to it and send books to him from my Kindle account which he downloads at the Cyber in his rancho. What an amazing technology!

Re: What are you reading?
The technology is absolutely incredible! I have taken maps and regional descriptions and then downloaded them to the Kindle. Once downloaded, they can be a reference from the car without having to connect tom the Internet.

English and Spanish?
Thomas Pikety's "Capital in the 21 Century" and "En Busca de Klingsor" by Jorge Volpi. Hard going but very rewarding, both of them.
