Driving to Ajijic
We will be driving from Houston to Ajijic with two cats. Someone suggested we spend the night at Villa del Real on the north side of Matehula. I cannot find info on this place on the net. Does anyone know it? I am trying to find out how much and if they will take the two cats.

Not familiar with Villa Del Real but we have stayed at Las Palmas in Matehula which is pet friendly. They also have secure parking. Its an older facility but is adequate. It has a good restaurant.
Its about 6 hours from Matehula to Lakeside.

This place is a no tell motel where you drive into your own private garage so they will not even know if you have animals in the car. If you order something from room service it will be placed in a carousel type tray on the outside by the server and then you rotate it to get to the food and/or drinks. You settle the bill as you leave. Its a pretty basic place but it gets the job done and I doubt that even if they notice the cats it would cause them a problem.
Just keep in mind that you will not have many non-x-rated choices on the tv though. lol.

We stayed at Villa Real in Matehuala when driving down with our three animals last fall. The owners saw our dog, at least, and had no problem (the cats were in carriers). The place is very basic (king size bed, but the sheets are poly and kind of rough) but spotlessly clean. A room was $400 for the night.

Re: Driving to Ajijic
There is a hotel on the south side of Matehuala that is pet friendly. Villas don Juan, which is just north of the Pemex station on the south end of town (and west side of the highway). Easily found with its bright yellow walls. It's pretty basic, but clean, quiet, plenty of hot water, and air conditioned (window units that worked great). Also: sort of dim lighting in the room, scratchy towels, and the tv got only two channels. I think there are only a dozen rooms. For a room with two beds we had a choice between the $350 peso one and the $500 peso one. A room with one bed was either $250 or $300p, I forget which.
This place was much better than the Sol y Luna, which is just up the road, also accepts pets, and is a little cheaper.

That must be the place she was suggesting! The name she gave me was Villa del Real, and I bet it is the same place, so perhaps you are giving the correct name. She also calls the town Matehula, so now I am not sure which is correct.

What is the parking situation there? If you had a small trailer, would there be a safe place for it?

I think a trailer would be reasonably secure there. The motel has a wall around it with a front gate, but I don't know if/when they close the gate. (And the motel is only on the front part of the lot--the back is dirt. If I wanted to engage in a little B&E I'd come over the wall back there.) I remember two small parking areas, and one of them is in front of a row of 4-5 rooms and out of sight of the entrance. That would be a pretty good spot for a trailer, assuming you are adept at backing up with it (not pull-through parking). And there are other places to park with the trailer, but they are more exposed.

Re: Driving to Ajijic
The town is definitely Matehuala. I am not sure whether it's Villa Real or Villa del Real. :) It has a purple neon sign ...

Thank you both for that information. What about the parking for the Motel Real Villa? I checked the link, but could not tell.

The motel is completely enclosed, with a monitored gate at the front. Once inside, each room has an adjacent secure garage. (Entrance to the room is through the garage.)

Re: Driving to Ajijic
Most of the no tell motels only have room for a car, not a trailer. Las Palmas has car ports next to each room where there would be room for the trailer. Also entire property is behind manned gates

Re: Driving to Ajijic
It worked out wonderfully for us and our three dogs. The next time we ate before we checked in...their food was nothing to rave about, but it was very clean.... although the tv programs were a little "spicy"

Re: Driving to Ajijic
we only stayed at no tell motels with 2 dogs a truck and trailer. the owner in lerdo even helped me get out by driving my rig because it was a tight fit. we never had trouble finding a secure place for the total rig.joyfull wrote:Most of the no tell motels only have room for a car, not a trailer. Re: Driving to Ajijic
good to hear Pedro. The ones we have stayed in have a one car garage which would not fit a trailer. Never stayed in one in Matehuala. Only Las Palmas.Pedro wrote:we only stayed at no tell motels with 2 dogs a truck and trailer. the owner in lerdo even helped me get out by driving my rig because it was a tight fit. we never had trouble finding a secure place for the total rig.joyfull wrote:Most of the no tell motels only have room for a car, not a trailer. Do you remember which ones they were and do you have some you would recommend?

Re: Driving to Ajijic
i think we took a difernt route than you are doing. we came straight down from santa teresa, new mexico. we averaged 45 mph and only drove about 4-5 hrs per day. the one in lerdo was thanks to rolly and near his house. the only other i semi remember was in that burb just past zacatecas industrial zone.
