Tianguis Paver Project
I have been asked to pass this message along:
Only your action will assure that we have safe access to the sports facilities, Charros and the Tianguis of Ajijic. Act now, the work has started and will end in a week!
In order to obtain federal funding the federal government required the change of the project to two smooth adoquin strips of 110 centimeters and 160 centimeters, in order to forster car passage. This totally defeats the original intent of our project.
The original project calls for a wide pad at the top and bottom of Av. Revolucion, a wide smooth surface down the center from the Carretera to Calle Constitucion and a one block extension down Calle Guadalupe Victoria. All of this has been eliminated except for the two strips mentioned above.
This not only defeats the intent of supplying safe and convenient transversal for the sports, charro and Tianguis area on the east of Ajijic. It defeats the coordinated project of supplying handicap ramps along Guadalupe Victoria which would also allow access to the cultural venues at the Plaza.
Worse yet, it promotes the use of the area by youths as a drag strip which would be dangerous to all!
Please sign now and forward to as many concerned friends as you can for their participation. Only by our action today will the authorities hear our plea!!!!

Re: Tianguis Paver Project
It only takes a couple minutes to sign the petition, but it really needs to be signed so hopefully they will change the project back to the way it was intended. So if you have a minute please sign it.

Harry and Chris
Any further updates???
I seem to remember there were events to raise expat money for this project in addition to the municipal and federal funds. Am I right?

Re: Tianguis Paver Project
This is the latest update from Harry:
The Municipality is giving us a 1.8 meter strip down the middle as of today. They have done the first block. The petitions are if the feds complain, Chapala can show that it was the will of the community. We still need your signatures and those of your friends!! We have 100. We also have the spanish version ready for distribution

Re: Tianguis Paver Project
I think that many believe that signing a petition is a political act which foreigners are banned from. Perhaps if someone of authority (Spencer?) reassured them we'd get more signers.

Re: Tianguis Paver Project
Just got back from the Tianguis. Works great. I don't have to watch my feet every step.
Heard a lot of shoppers saying they hadn't been there for a long time because of the previous street condition.
