Burger King and Tim Hortons???
Looks like they are talking merger. New company would be in Canada to save money versus BK European headquarters. I don't know who is eating who.
Is this messing with tradition Canadians??

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
Tim Horton's was briefly owned by Wendy's then sold back after a few years (or something like that) so it is not unusual or surprising.
Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
During the reporting of this on the CBC News this morning it was indicated that this merger may be a move by BK's headquarters to leave the US to profit from the almost 10% lower corporate tax rate they would have in Ontario. Obama is apparently upset by this trend of US Corporations to seek Tax "Inversion". Now that's a switch, I was always under the impression that the cost of doing business in Canada was higher than in the US.

Burger King could definitely benefit by " better coffee "
actually " better food " might not hurt them either

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
according to the financial post,3g capital a brazilian capital investment firm has CONTROLLING interest in bk. the excited states continues it's attempts to control the world by any means. bk is an international company and the excited states forces them to pay multiple taxes over and over. i think their corporate tax alone is 40% operating out of miami. it will be way less when the merger[not aquisition] takes place and headquarters will be in ontario. you regular expats are experiencing this kinda crap with FATC and yer IRS so it's not just international corps. that are getting it up the yingyang.
This merger will create the the 3rd largest fast service corp. in the world.

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
Burger king sold to Pillsbury that sold to Grand Met that merged with Guiness to become Diageo . Pillsbury had a steak House called Steak and Ale at one time along with BK so it is not the first time they will be paired off with a steak house...

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
tim hortons is not a steakhouse. it's doughnuts and coffee. rolling up the rim has nothing to do with steak.

Get a grip...Pedro wrote:the excited states continues it's attempts to control the world by any means.
It all boils down to corporate greed,BK is mostly owned by Brazilian LBO investors who want to avoid paying taxes in the US,the same country that BK made their money in,eff them and boycott BK.

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
I was in one of my vendors headquarters one day. They had been going through managers and sales for about a year.
On the back of the bathroom door some wit had written "Do you know who our manager is today?"
Someone had written below it "Do you even know who owns us today?"
Gulf Oil bought them as part of a package on a Thursday and spun them off the following Monday.
They went BK shortly thereafter........

my grip is just fine.when we go to edmonton next week we will have a harveys, an a&w teen burger and a banana split at dq. i dont care what the investors at burger king do as long as it's good for the shareholders. i don't eat bk because it's inferior. is that a boycott?-SNORK!

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
BK has HQ in the USA where corprate tax rate is 35%. Canada just lowered theirs to 15%. What that means to BK if they move their HQ to Toronto is; the tax on their US income is still 35%, but repatriated profits will be taxed at the lower Canadian rate. BTW, even though the word merger has been used, it's actually an acquisition of Tim Horton's by BK. If it happens I wonder if we'll get Timmy's here?

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
the new merged company will be majority owned by the brazilian investment firm and the rest of the shares will be owned by bk and th shareholders.the financial post reported the corporate tax charged to bk in miami is 40%. maybe if they headquartered in alberta their rate would be even lower as alberta has the lowest tax rate of all the provinces. bk is in 100 countries so i would suggest if not already there, that the majority of the companies income comes outside of the excited states. it's an obscenity that the excited states should get taxes on income earned elsewhere-no?
a while ago there was a story in the national post about a teenager born to expat parents in ottawa who the excited states gummint wanted to tax on her after school job even though she had never even left canada and pays canadian income tax on her meager earnings. she unfortunately has duel citizenship.

harvey's makes a hamburger a beautiful thing.nothing beats a harveys. it's millet, allberta by the way-a thriving community of just over 2000. unfortunately we have to set foot reluctantly in san francisco. before we arrive in edmonchuk where we will pick up some chinese bbq on our way to our friends house[duck and pork] for dinner.viajero wrote:What are you,the Gordon Gecko from Millitesville,Alberta?Pedro wrote:i dont care what the investors at burger king do as long as it's good for the shareholders.

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
Pedro Points.
I also wondered why BK/Hortons would choose Ontario 11% over Alberta 10% provincial Tax combined with Federal 15% for totals of 26% and 25%.... 1% equals a lot of money.
Harvey's is still fast food crap
Ironically, our best recollection of San Francisco was the Chinese Food

Re: Burger King and Tim Hortons???
not likely to be as good as the poppy seed rye that we used to get at the polish bakery in edmunchuk. hopefully we will have enough room in the suitcase to go along with all the various sausages from the polish deli.
yvonne's aunt in cali makes an excellent german style sourdough rye.
