End of NAFTA requirement for nationalizing J-cars coming? Empty End of NAFTA requirement for nationalizing J-cars coming?

Post by addtocart Sun Sep 07, 2014 9:57 am

I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago, and now I can't find it, that the rules regarding nationalizing non-NAFTA vehicles expire in 2015 or 2016. Anybody know if there is truth to that?

I am hoping someone posts and says this is true. However I scoured the internet and couldn't find any reference to this being the case. My J-Toyota and I live in hope.

Maybe with the big shake-up at Aduana, the new head guy will just throw up his hands and say, "It's all too crazy, give everyone papers and plates!"

We renewed our Temp Visa for 3 years instead of going Permanent, hoping this would change before we had to get rid of our "J" car (which we love and would like to keep). A little over 2 years remaining... we keep hoping!

You need to check with Spencer. He told me something a little different and I'm wondering if the information got confused .... I have a 2011 "NAFTA" car, but because of the 'newness' it could not be nationalized (at least supposedly...you know how that goes). Spencer said that a regulation change is due January 1, 2015, that allows a 2011 to be legally nationalized. You might check with him about the clarification between this and your question above to see if it is 2 different discussions.

Sonia Diaz in San Miguel Allende expects to be able to legalize non-nafta cars in October. There have been a number of confirmed reports now that legalization, or regularization, is different than nationalization. Legalization seems more expensive, but for others - not so much. I guess it depends on what the facilitator charges. They both arrive at the same destination with fully legal plates and nationally registered V.I.N. numbers. I believe there is a waiting period before you can sell a legalized vehicle and also your TIP remains at large at the border. It can only be removed at the border. There must be a time limit before it expires but no one can tell what that is. It is tied to your passport - new passport, no TIP.

Sonia can also answer your 2011 question.

But can she get your car legally exported from the USA?  Isn't that what got all those busted at Aduana and the courts in NW Mexico?

BTW, not one of those 82 or so vehicles she brags about are completely legal.  NOT ONE!!!

Before Sonia chimes in with one of her rants about how great she is and how anyone who dares say a discouraging word is only doing so because she is a woman, a Mexican, or a Mexican woman.

What she does mostly is UCD legalization.  Which allows you to join a group of poor Mexican farmers who cannot afford to legalize their trucks.  How that is viewed by the cop who pulls you over is anybody's guess.  Also, you can only drive your car in the few states that do recognize the UCD "plates".

Flame on, Sonia.

The quotes are a little mixed up, but the information is dead right. For sure, the vehicle couldn't be driven in the Guad. metro area (like the airport), even if they were plated in Jalisco.
Who knows when the shoe will drop on foreign residents hiding in a "sindicato de campesinos". Just as well say you are in the teachers union or Pemex workers union.

Can't you just picture a couple of well to do ex-pats in SMA pulling up to the valet parking at a fancy restaurant in their Escalade with the campesino plates they got thru Sonia...

lol!
A few months ago, a millionaire couple was caught collecting welfare in both Florida and Minnesota. They no doubt would have went for the campesino plates if they had moved to Mexico. Maybe the offenders, if judged that, should be sent to the Valle de Guadalupe to pick grapes, to prove their "campesino bona fides".

When are you guys going to realize that these ARE NOT UCD plates. That is a completely off the table issue. These are legalized titles like the lawyer did at the airport - thoroughly checked and legal, like the facilitator does in Puerto Vallarta for the former Chief of Police's gringo friends, like a top real estate lawyer in Guadalajara for another Puerto Vallarta resident, one of his clients. All legal, all J cars. Also AGAIN, the cars do not have to be approved for U.S. export - only if they are NAFTA cars to be resold in the commercial market. What other country in the world would tax the export of used cars?!?!? There is talk of changing it - but that is all it is, once the cost of collecting that tax is figured out - it will make no sense at all. One of these idiots is even saying that Amparos will be cancelled - this is like denying the right to appeal, it is a Federal law in Mexico protected by the constitution.

Then why does she keep mentioning that she has the protection of an 800,000 member strong organization to protect the recipients of the plates, if it is not through the UCD?
