Nogales to Ajijic
I will be driving from Nogales to Ajijic in a couple of weeks. Has anyone driven that road lately and could you suggest a good place to stop overnight. If possible I would like to make it to Ajijic in 2 days. Also has the road barrage that the Indians set up still there?

Re: Nogales to Ajijic
I just finished the drive from Lakeside to Los Angeles, yesterday. No Yaqui blockade. I did the drive in 3 days. Stayed in Culiacan at the Paradise no-tell motel, 200 pesos for 12 hours, a friends house in San Carlos and then crossed north. Roads were in good shape. I did not get stopped at any of the retens.
Good luck

Re: Nogales to Ajijic
If not already planned, suggest crossing at the Mariposa entry just west of Nogales.....
Assuming you will need to stop for either Immigration and/or car permit, this will be done waaay down in the Guaymas area at Empalme and not at the border.
If you are a road warrior, this trip can be made in 2 days. AFTER you get an early start from the border, Los Mochis is 'about' 8.5 hours and the outskirts of Culiacan is about 600 miles @ 11 hours. The 500 miles to Ajijic can then be made the second day in about 9 hours.
If you get a more leisurely start from the border, the 3 days is 'required'. A thought would be to stop in Navojoa the first night, then Mazatlan the second and then on into Ajijic the 3rd day. All days would be pretty easy days.

Nice no tell motel in Mazatlan. It is located not too far off the quota on on of the roads adjacent to the Mazatlan airport. It is called Sole, extremely clean, allows dogs, good room service food, enclosed garage. 220pesos for 12 hours.

We will soon be headed from Chapala to Tucson, and this sounds like a good stop for us and our dogs. Can you tell us if it is south or north of the Airport, the name of the road, or other ways to find it? Thanks for your help, as we are planning the trip, having just accepted an offer on our home. We are really going to miss living here, but I need the VA medical services..........

BTW, the password for their Internet is 5555555555.....it is the number 5 typed in 10 times. Some friends were there about 3 weeks ago. They got there about 5pm and did to want to leave by 5am so they just paid 440p for 24 hours. They said it was a great find.

We were there with our 2 dogs and fully loaded minivan which went in the spotless garage. When are you traveling? Hate to see you go, you have been a valuable member on this webboard.

You next stop north with your dogs can be in Navajoa at the Best Wester Del Rio just off the quota. You will see it on your left as you drive thru town. Restaurant is nice also.

No, can‘t go as we are up to our ears and I‘m kind of fragile without my oxygen for very long.

Re: Nogales to Ajijic
On our way up we stayed in Navajoa, but can't remember the name of the hotel, it was nice and had a pool to relax in which we needed.
On our way back
Hopefully, you'll be able to make it to Los Mochis before it gets dark. There isn't too much before there, except Guasave, and we haven't stopped there to check it out. there are 2 or 3 "no-tell motels" on the north end of town. Leaving you'll see a ZAR hotel off the road to the right. We DO NOT recommend this ZARS.
We drove to Phoenix up and back in 2 days.

Louise drives the speed limit and I am a nervous passenger watching the blurry scenery with my poor vision. All of your hints are a big help and we are making notes.
On another topic: If you need small stuff, art, potted plants, etc. for any of your sales, we will be getting rid of a lot; hundreds of DVDs, English books, tape/CD stereo player, etc.
Many thanks.

Re: Nogales to Ajijic
The nicest auto hotel i have stayed at was in hermosillo north bound to az. It was called new concept hotel. They had a 3,500 peso unit that had a stage with 2 poles :) . A lap pool in the back yard.... a couch for 22 people..... a bed for 12 people. It was pretty crazy.. i had a regular unit and ask attendant to see the 3500 peso unit.

Re: Nogales to Ajijic
We are just asking folks to send a PM and get our phone number for directions. For us, at this stage, it is easier to just invite folks one at a time for a look. Some have already done that, and a few more are due today. We don‘t have the strength or endurance to organize a proper sale, so just walk through and tell us what you want or need.

Thanks for the reminder. Most smart car folks know that a 2007 smart was not sold in the US, but you know that it could have been a Canadian or European one.....I forgot about that point.
Good catch.
