Does anyone have one or more of these in the cupboard and would be willing to sell it or them? Or, have you seen it somewhere in the Lakeside area? Our 93 year old father lives in fear that his one remaining mug in this collection will break before he does. We have not found this particular shape anywhere on the internet. Mug holds 12 ounces; weighs 15 ounces; is 4 inches deep measured inside from base to rim. Pattern is not as important as the shape.

Photo to follow.

Many thanks for any leads!

That mug looks a whole lot better than the mug that posted it.

That's a beautiful piece of pottery and an excellent photo of it.

It is definitely from "back in the day" -- he has lived Lakeside for 40 years, purchased the mug no less than 35 years ago.

Most professional potters would have no problem copying this, even coming close to matching the glaze. Don't tempt the fates by bringing it to show them - print out the photo and have a drawing with exact measurements.

Thanks for the idea, Chillin. The cup is kept under virtual lock and key except for the morning break for coffee! Ken Edwards moved to Guatemala several years ago and we are on the trail of his studio/shop there. But, the preference is still for one or more of the "ancient" mugs.

There is a shop in Tlaquepaque called El Palomar that makes pottery that looks just like that. They have been there forever. Ajijic Tango's dishes come from there. They are not on the main walking street. Don't have the address, but maybe someone else here does. They have all shapes of mugs. Maybe that is where it came from.

Thanks, Joyful.  The place you describe is Ken Edward's  El Palomar factory and the source of this cup 35+ years ago.   The last time I visited, they did not have this particular shape of cup.  The situation was not quite so dire at the time (there were two cups alive and in use.)  I am planning another run to Tonala with photos of the cup and all dimensions in hopes they can custom several.   As a backup,  I will begin efforts to contact Ken Edwards who now lives and has a factory in Guatemala.  That said and soon done, our father has a preference for oldies and would be very happy if someone has a few stashed in their cupboard and would be willing to sell to him.

I was in the back at El Palomar and they have a gajillion molds. Willing to be they have that old one and would make it for you. How sweet you are trying to do this for your Dad. Isn't it nice that the simple things make us happy when we're older?
