FYI Ebola

You might not want to come to Texas obviously we're not closing the border..
What assurances do you have that Mexico won't close the border? Not trying to spread fear but something you should consider...

Re: FYI Ebola
What we're seeing in Texas is people who were on flights are supposed to be quarantined for 21 days and then anyone who has had contact with you is quarantined 21 day.. we've had 2 schools closed here.
We are averaging 3-5 quarantines a day.

Re: FYI Ebola
What do you want people to say? They will storm the border with AK47s?
BTW, I am wondering why it is that whenever someone says, "I am not trying to spread fear," most often that is exactly what they are doing?

Re: FYI Ebola
Well if you're smart you will stay put in Mexico... if you have medical professionals that are exposed to ebola flying and going on cruises.. clearly they should know better. .
so if you're stupid enough to take chances flying here have at it..

They should have quarantined the whole state of Texas a long time ago.

Re: FYI Ebola
Seriously. . Why would you want to travel to Texas knowing that "if" you come in contact with someone who was exposed you will be quarantined?

Re: FYI Ebola
According to the WHO, the annual global death count attributed to common influenza is, at a minimum, 250,000. About this there is complete silence. One person dies of Ebola in the USA and CNN has its viewer base shitting their pants.

Re: FYI Ebola
I not saying that you'll die.. are you prepared to spend 21 days in quarantine and have you're contacts spend 21 days in quaranrine?
Yes or no... because if you come in contact with a suspected person you will be quarantined. .

Re: FYI Ebola
considering how the whole thing is handled people should be scared, 1 guy dies and 2 nurses get it?Not too good at that rate they will be out of nurses pretty quickly if it takes off here.
Nurses who were in contact with it are not quarantined? They take off on planes and cruise ship great..we see that brains are in full gear and do not worry folks it is not really contagious.
Viajero has it right the whole state should be quarantined.

Re: FYI Ebola
The way people are not taking this seriously is very bad..
I applaud the schools that closed even though it's not likely that they were exposed.
What I don't understand is why people are dismissing the possibility of being detained or the possibility that Americans who have been to a state or country that has ebola is not considering that Mexico could change their policy on re entry into Mexico. .

Re: FYI Ebola
Wow, good thing Texas is such a big state. They must have thousands of people in quarantined by now, tens of thousands pretty soon. Out of state travelers too, so they have places for them to stay? Or are they being put up in hotels that are now quarantined? State budget must be in great shape, able to pay people to monitor and confine thousands of people. They got them all trained and up and running in days. That is why they call it The Great State of Texas, I guess.

Re: FYI Ebola
The people in quarantine are staying in their homes with medical people checking their temperatures daily... the sick ones are being flown to the hospitals that specializes in containment of deadly disease. .
If a person who tests positive all their belongings are destroyed. .

Re: FYI Ebola
“In other words, the rules of transmission in the community are exactly as promised with calm assurance weeks and months ago; and, conversely, the risk of caring for the super sick is every bit as harrowing and dangerous as feared when all of this began. So why are we all so worked up? It turns out that America loves two aspects of the story.
First, we are addicted in some way to fear. I will leave it to the psychologists to sort this one out, but surely it is something well understood by politicos for whom fear and its provocation is the coin of the realm.
Second, and surely more corrosive, we cherish nothing so much as a hindsight-based blame game, sitting from our comfortable unpressured perch of today and combing back through yesterday’s possible missteps. Yet given the tragedy occurring right now in West Africa and the under-discussed heroism of the health-care workers in Dallas who treated Duncan knowing there was risk and now are willingly treating their own sickened colleagues, the pouting and stomping over what coulda woulda shoulda been done, is more than annoying. In its sanctimony and startling rage, this attitude threatens to efface the remarkable record of humanity exhibited by so many who have died because in their desperate attempt to help another person.”

Re: FYI Ebola
I am more concerned about the virus killing and paralyzing children.
The world health community did not expect ebola to jump out of bounds. In previous outbreaks there have always been health workers effected and flown out for 1st world care. That is part of the deal cut for them to go in there. We just haven't heard about it before because it would cause fear and panic. It was highly unusual for someone from those poverty streets to have the wherewithal to get on a plane to Dallas. Although not all areas are the abject poverty we see in news reports. Those pictorals are focused on extreme poverty to create sympathy and a false sense of security in that we don't live that way so it couldn't get out of control here.
Appointing a "czar" with no medical background and no agency bureaucratic skill is just criminal.

I'm so glad we're booked on Westjet to PV at Xmas. Until this "sitiation" rectifies they just became my air carrier of choice YVR to Mexico (no US, especially Texas touchdown). Thinking the same for March Lakeside. Gotta feeling the Mxs will start playing hardball with the threat. They already have and you can"t blame them. Who needs one stinkin cruise ship to jeopardize a national health system.
