Bass in the Lake? Empty Bass in the Lake?

Post by CanuckBob Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:06 pm

Have they ever thought of stocking Lake Chapala with large mouth Bass? From a sport fishing perspective they would be a lot more interesting to catch and I believe they are good eating. They do like to live in weedy areas and feed on smaller sunfish.

Just wondering.......

Good question, largemouth bass should thrive in the lake, make a lot of fisherman very happy and provide an extra shot of pesos for the vendors. cheers

Even if there were would you want to eat them with the contamination and heavy metal levels?

Then again, have you heard the stories / reputation of bass fishermen?

No, I would just love to fish them as catch and release. The locals however may find them better eating than the carp and other sunfish that currently inhabit the lake.

Can you imagine some of the "fishing resorts" that could be set up to attract people that love to fish Bass. I think it could bring a lot more business to some of the smaller towns further along the lake. I would like a piece of that action........

And no I haven't heard about Bass fisherman reputations.

They tried some years back and the fingerlings died before they got very big. I think they chocked on the turds that were prevalent then.
I hear Whitefish are coming back.
some of the smaller "lagunas" in the area have bass.
Hey, maybe Tilapia would do well in Chapala? (Many think Tilapia is native, but comes from Africa.

There was a article I read back around August or September that reported that they had introduced 500,000 fingerling Florida Black Bass into the Lake

Bass...good to eat? OH YEAH!!! TASTY TASTY! Of course eating them would depend on just how many metals and chemicals they were holding on to.
