Police action in San Juan Tecomatlan

This afternoon my wife and I decided to ride from Chapala to Mezcala. When we reached San Juan Tecomatlan, there was a bus stopped in the road. We thought that there had been an accident, but it did not seem so. There was a police vehicle in front of and one behind the bus, preventing it from moving. The people who had been on the bus were standing along side the bus on the side of the road. We went on around the stopped bus and continued on to Mezcala. On the way back we saw two other buses stopped, with the passengers outside the bus, also many police standing around. If you are going that way, be careful. We were not inconvenienced in any manner, but there were a lot of unhappy people along side the road. This was about five PM on Saturday.

About 6:00 to 6:30 PM there was a reten in Tlachichilco with a bus stopped. Also a reten in SAT about the same time, stopping taxis. Obviously, they were looking for someone.

I live in the area. There have been a number of these spot checks set up by the Poncitlan Municipal Police over the past few weeks on Saturdays. They are doing spot checks for drugs - rumoured to be a lot of drug activity further east (Mezcala and San Pedro).
