Christmas, I mean, Holiday Soccer at Tecoluta (6 corners) Empty Christmas, I mean, Holiday Soccer at Tecoluta (6 corners)

Post by TrueBrit Wed Dec 17, 2014 9:51 pm

This Friday, Union Ajijic (the big kids team) will play at Tecoluta (near 6 corners) at 6pm.
Tecoluta is the field by the lake - once you reach 6 corners turn down towards the lake and you should see the field. If your feet get wet, you've gone too far.
In January we did get confirmation that there will be a soccer school at Tecoluta for all the village kids who have been left behind in the wake of Union's success. Hopefully it will give the less talented but equally enthusiastic kids in the village an opportunity to play in local leagues. (Let's hope they are not too successful and follow in Union's footsteps into higher statewide leagues). Come out support local kids soccer.

Orale!

Glad to be going back to original goal.  Also glad big kids did good and moved on but I really want to support the normal poor kids. They are the ones who need our help.  Older more talented kids have lots of attention given to them.

Go Union.
Go Soccer school.

From the Ajijic plaza, go south a block to Ocampo and turn right, going westward on Ocampo for 4 or 5 blocks. When you reach an intersection with a big tree in the middle and six street corners (seiz esquinas), you are there. The soccer field is down a little street from the tree toward the lake.

The field is lakeside between Francisco Villa and Flores Magon.

However, there is very little if any parking close. Your best bet is to park one block south of Ocampo on Flores Magon and walk down.

OK if you are walking.....driving, Ocampo is one way, west to east....have to drive out Hidalgo or Independencia to seis esquinas with a vehicle.

If you go across Ocampo, and down Francisco Villa, you will find parking.
Just be careful of the rocks.
I will not be there to sell beer this time, but if Slainte39 is there, you probably would not get to drink it anyway.
Hope to see many folks coming to this field next year when we get it together.
I will bring the beer. Beer Beer Beer

I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE WILL BE A GAME TONIGHT. I HAVE JUST RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT GIOVANNI HAS DIED. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING. I AM GOING TO THE LOWER FIELD RIGHT NOW (3PM) TO SEE IF I CAN FIND OUT MORE.

Yes, I saw on Facebook this morning that Giovanni had passed away. It didn't say what happened to him. RIP Giovanni.

I have just returned from the lower field where they are holding the traditional velario for Giovanni. It was a very emotional scene. His casket (open) is there. It wasn't the time to ask details but a neighbor on my street told me it was a sudden heart attack that happened at 5 this morning. I hope people can visit there to pay their respects. His family are there and I am sure it would mean a lot to them.

The game is still going on this evening.

I went to the game last night and spoke to Rafa about the upcoming season. Because they did not get far in the playoffs this year, they cannot afford to rejoin the Guadalajara league in January. They will play in local leagues. This makes a lot of sense to me. I think chance conspired to create a VERY good collection of talent that came together over the past year and a half. But because of age ranges, they couldn't stay together and I think we have returned to a team of very good and very entertaining players - but perhaps not at the level they were before.
Still worthy of support.

Gio was so attentive and generous to me when I was the only expat on the bus that went to the Tepic playoff games.  After the game, there was this discussion about taking the guys to the beach and Gio approached me and asked if I was willing to do this.  I was more than willing and we all went and had a blast.  Gio seemed very attentive to the fact that I was pretty much there on my own and after a great swim we shared beers, swapped stories and discussed futbol.

This is just such a shock to me, I feel like I've lost a friend even though I obviously didn't know him that well. I enjoyed watching him work the sidelines at the games and felt he was a pretty good coach.

Absolutely. Your efforts to keep us informed about schedules, needs, etc. are really appreciated. I still have my shirt and I'll be there when the season starts up. If I'm not riding motos, of course. Beer

I will be at the upper field this afternoon for the game and I will try to find out more about any services/mass/funeral arrangements for Gio.  So far I know this via Saul Montaya (presumably his cousin)....  Se les informa que hoy se celebrara un partido de fútbol de despedida en memoria del primo Giovanni Gabriel Militello en el campo de ajijic a las 3 pm. Estan todos invitados. Esperamos nos puedan acompañar.
You are informed that today a farewell football match will celebrate the memory of cousin Giovanni Gabriel Militello in the Ajijic field [I heard the upper field from others] at 3pm.  All are invited.  We hope you can join us.

Union Ajijic beat Union Laguna today in a very emotional game.  Before the kick-off Giovanni's ashes were brought to the field and there was a moving two minute ovation.  Christian, Gio's brother played.  Gio's ashes remained on the lap of his wife for his final game.

The kid holding the ashes above is Gio's son from his first marriage.

Anyway, there is a game this Sunday 28th at the lower field (impastado) at 4pm Union Ajijic (grandes) vs dep 56.

Total shocker. I spoke to him on Facebook on the 14th.....A really nice man. Dying of a heart attack at such a young age. He had a great attitude, great smile, loved the boys. Leaving 2 young children and wife.....Really gonna be hard on the family as Giovanni was their sole provider and protector.
