Mom's
I am sitting here in my living room, up the street from Mom's gagging on the stench, once again, as the cistern/septic tank gets pumped out. The good news is that they are pumping it out and stinking up Riberas rather than letting the tanks overflow and rundown the street.

I never understood why they can not solve that problem with a better system. I always hated smelling that when they pumped. For all the business they get surely they must know they need a better system for waste management. UGH.

Re: Mom's
Your Water Department Simapa drains these septic tanks. They always used to drain same on Wednesday. When Moms was at her old spot. I knew that the restaurant closed each Wednesday because Simapa drained their septic tank that day . I didn't understand why until you mention the bad odor today.

Re: Mom's
I was amazed when I found my septic system had no leach field OR even drain holes in the bottom where the black water could drain out.
A totally closed system that must be pumped every so often. Mine is 10,000 liters. I'm sure larger homes have larger tanks.
I don't know enough to say but maybe the black water is too full of contaminants to be filtered out in the ground.
When I needed mine pumped, SIMAPA's hose wasn't long enough to reach from the street, they have only 25 meters so I got it done commercially; price wasn't terrible if you pro-rate it over a couple of years, but depending on your use, YMMV.
Just a Clueless comment.

I am sure the Mom' s owners would love to install a better system. I am guessing they do not have the money to do so. I had heard the employees took over the restaurant after "Mom" died. They are probably happy to just continue supporting themselves and their families.

OMG, Mom died? When did that happen? Is her daughter still running the place? OMG.

It was several months ago. Perhaps during the early summer months, I don't remember. Yes, mom's daughter is there I believe every day and I assumed but don't know that she took the restaurant over from her mom. She is Rod Collins' (Lagunanet) sister

Re: Mom's
Sampati, I am sorry you did not know. It has been a year at least I think. You know how time is. (Maybe someone else remembers exactly.) I heard that the employees were keeping it open and do not know if that was just until her daughter was able to resume or if they are still running it.
Since Mom's is such an institution here, maybe someone who knows can provide an update.

We left Ajijic about 6 years ago and moved to PV. I guess I missed any postings about Mom's death. I am shocked, we lived at Lomas del Manglar very close to Mom's and we spent a lot of time there. Wow, I am really sorry to hear of her passing. She always looked so darn good and healthy.

Re: Mom's
Mae died of cancer on Easter weekend 2014. Camille, Mom's daughter, took over all the responsibility for Mom's Deli when Mae died--the employees never ran the restaurant. It is still the same with great gringo food and even better desserts. Everyone misses Mae, but Camille's kids have been helping on the weekends by taking cash.

Re: Mom's
We visited Mom's everyday for about 2 months as we were remodeling our home in Lomas del Manglar and we had no kitchen. I remember making her laugh one morning when we went for breakfast when I told her I felt like we were practicing for when we would have to go to assisted living and we would have to come to the dining room every morning for breakfast. I can't believe the kids are old enough to be working in the restaurant. Camille used to bring them to the restaurant and Mom would give one of the boys an apron and he would go bus tables. I guess that was the start of their training but they were so young at the time it was cute to see them scurry around the restaurant. Boy, how time flies and how things change.
