Need advice on Blu/ray DVD region codes.
My friends US spec DVD broke so we want to buy a new blu ray player. I have two world players that ignore the region code. If we buy a blu ray at Walmart will it play for example the LCS DVDs from US/Can? Should we buy one in US/Can and bring it down. My two players play anything so I just don't have any experience with these region codes. US and Canada are one region....Is latin America another region??
A summary of understanding of this would help me decide what to do.

Region A, or 1 is defined as the Americas and parts of Asia.
The Americas includes Mexico.

Just look for a multiregion dvd player, as it will play any NTSC region as well as PAL (UK and Ireland plus other countries) and Secom which is France and French speaking Africa.

We need to go to BR so DVD won't do it. Does Best Buy sell any of this stuff?

Zen has it correct. Buy any Region A blue ray player and you can play any blue ray disc from anywhere in the Americas. However, if you have a lot of non-blue ray discs you could run into a problem because Mexico and the rest of North America are not in the same region. In that case, you would need a region free or multi region player. I have seen them down here occasionally but not recently.

Re: Need advice on Blu/ray DVD region codes.
The problems with non Blu Ray discs on a Blu Ray player mostly relate to the authentication process.
If the non Blu Ray disc is not "legitimate", the player will refuse to play it.
A cheap DVD player overcomes that problem.

My Chipped Oppo Blu Ray players play anything from anywhere. Do they have world Blu Ray players that do the same in Mexico? I can't use a DVD player. Too many BR disks and it is the future compared to DVD.
