We are a responsible, friendly, retired couple looking for a long-term (one-year) rental in downtown Ajijic (south of Carretera, easy walk to plaza) beginning mid-May/June, 2015. No pets. Furnished, 2 bdrm. No parking. $750-1000 including util.

If you have or know of a place that’s available and fits this bill, we’d sure appreciate your response.

Our plan: We’ll continue to keep up with online agency listings and webboards. Our plane lands at GDL May 17th. We’ve reserved a room near the plaza for a week. Once there—and it seems like you can’t accomplish much until you’re on the ground, ready to sign, pay, and move in—we’ll follow any leads that have developed, meet with some of the rental agents we’ve been in contact with, check out the local bulletin boards (LCS, El Torito, etc.), work the phones and see what we can find.

Any good advice (or encouragement!) about this plan will also be appreciated.

Sounds like a solid plan. I'm sure you won't have any problems finding something. Worse case is you may have to grab something short term (3 to 6 months) to give you more time to find the perfect place.

Thanks, Bob. We appreciate your encouraging words, especially coming from such a knowledgeable, if twisted, guy.
