Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
Article says he was just changing the facade and not really remodeling.

The article states it will be part of an upper end restaurant chain from Guadalajara so it will need some remodelling as there are holes in the floor and roof. I imagine the kitchen facilities have been looted and are in complete disrepair too.
Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
I think they are doing an Oxxo. When they built that they were just doing a little remodeling behind the walls they erected and one morning we all workup to Oxxo in the middle of town.
Although of course anyone who peeked over the walls knew and that would be anyone up the mountain. But still it was the boldfaced lie that was offensive.

From what I've heard, the story of that place from the get go has been a tale of "heavenly grease" to cover the basic illegality of putting up anything in that location.
So be it, but let's hope it's at least a functional eyesore, since an eyesore it is.
cheers.

Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
Probably nothing illegal about it, maybe a bad decision in the opinion of some.
I think the proper channels were covered with CNA when the original building went up, but it probably cost some money. Morley Eager, who was still alive, and running the "Old Posada" at that time, fought it tooth and nail, but to no avail.
Sometimes things get through the system and there is nothing you can do about it. There isn't anything that prevents the CNA from giving a concession like this, as it is an administrative decision.
Rizzo Jasso was, when I dealt with him years ago, a very astute, well respected, and well connected businessman,

You can buy me a drink anytime, anywhere.
That, and the pleasure of your company, would make me very happy.

Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
Good idea.
Also, there's the new location for Perry's. Sign is out front on the Carretera, somewhat west of the main center of town and close to Roberto's. Looks like it's convenient, plenty of parking and will be much more pleasant. Maybe a swarm to help get it off the ground?

He either got his permits in order or someone forgot to tell the painters to cease and desist. They are working there today.
Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
Yeah, today I also saw them painting/priming the new iron "facade" or "iron curtain", depending upon your appetite for a conspiracy theory. LOL.
All I know is I have no control over it, hope for the best, and look forward to the unveiling!

The article in "La Laguna" is interesting. In the subhead, it says: "Rumores dicen que se trata de una cadena grande de Guadalajara."
But which??? Which big restaurant chain in Guadalajara does he currently operate/own? Slainte???
What are we gonna get? A Chili's……or La Vaca Argentina?!??!!! jajajaja. Burp.

I don 't know if he has "gotten" into the restaurant business, as in operating and managing. When I had dealings with him he was in the real estate business and back in the 90's, was president of AMPI in Guadalajara.
I also thought and hoped it might be La Vaca as they have expanded rapidly in the 7 years they have been in existence to where I think they have a half dozen locations in Guad. and now also have expanded to Saltillo and PV.
I eat at the original most often, but have also been to the newer ones in Andares, Gourmeteria, and by the Costco store in PV.
All the same excellent quality....... jajajaja. burp...you nailed it....spot on....right on the money
Chili's.....could be.... a possibility, or something like Applebees.
I doubt if it's a burger chain like McD. or BK, as franchise cost and requirements are out of sight for this area, but maybe some other lesser known local Guad. chain, such as Italiani's.

Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
I agree, no way McDonalds, BK, Chili's, Applebees or any other "US chain" is going to open a restaurant in that building. How about a Sirloin Stockade?
Re: New restuarant in the old Tequila Republic?
They started attaching the cement board to the new façade yesterday.

We should be so lucky to get anything better than a faux Taco Bell.
