Two Canadians missing from the lake

I just heard this on Televisa...Three Canadians went out on Lake Chapala on a sailboat launched in Ajijic couple of days ago, one man age 86 has been found by the Bomberos and two people are still missing. Anyone know anything about this?

Yes, they are searching for the other two with boats, helicopter and plane. The boat was drifting in the Ajijic area, the first body was found off the island in Chapala.

I saw them searching earlier today...did they find them? What an awful thing to happen.

As of noon only one had been found. I cannot really comment much to respect the families. The US consulate and Canadian are aware of the situation and everybody is working hard to find the remaining US and Canadian citizen. The news seems to have broke today all over but we must have hope that somehow they are alive. Protección civil and the harbor máster have been diligently searching and the authorities and MP as well have been working hard

Yeah, I heard about this early morning today at a meeting, plus some other details but can't confirm them so just second/third-hand stuff. Really sad.

I have just spoken to Chris Bennett, Zane Bennetts wife, and she confirmed he was the one they found by the island. The other two missing are John, owner of Bar Tomas, and Robin whose wife is Dee. I don't know last names. My good friend RIP

Zane was a very good guy, this is just so sad. The lake sure can be fierce, way more than it looks.
Maybe I should start wearing the life jacket when I kayak instead of using it as a back cushion? You just never know.
So sorry to everyone who has lost a friend in this terrible accident.

What is the lake temperature? You'd think if they stayed with the boat they could last a long while

The lake temperature would not be a problem. You could float in it for days however the shore can look closer than it actually is and people try to swim.

Always wear a life jacket!!!

I just received a telephone call saying John and Robin's bodies were found some 20 minutes ago near Riberis. Both were identified.

Actually not a partner but good friend of John's who was the former owner of Bar Tomas. This is too sad, too young to be gone. So hard for Chris and Shirley to have to bear.

Maybe rethink posting this. It adds nothing to the details and really is not anyone's concern. My heart goes out to all of the families.  I read a few minutes ago on the Riberas news FB page that the third body had been recovered near Mirasol.

This is so sad! I have to wonder how all three people could die in a lake that is so low when the deepest point, which I read on here, was only 14'!  Plus I would think anyone who has any experience with water sports of any kind has the right stuff on board for emergency reasons, if not than hopefully this will make a difference from now on for those going out on the lake. I hope it wasn't something like a fight amongst friends or worse ;(. I just can't help but wonder why they all three died.....

What could be worse than what actually happened?
The lake may not be excessively deep but it's very wide.
A very sad event....no need to speculate.

exactly! some of us knew them personally.

It was a tiny plastic boat with, probably overloaded, and with an un-stayed mast; no rigging to support it in a heavy gust, which probably caused it to break. Once helpless to control the boat, and possibly capsized, it is a pretty slippery thing to try to hold on to.
Lake Chapals is very shallow, which is what makes it even more dangerous in high winds. The waves will be high and short; the worst kind for small boats.

Maybe she is fifteen feet tall and can hold her breath between waves.
