But then again, silly me, with our busy and hectic lives we seldom have time! Just Sayin'
I would love to shop at all the individual small stores for my grocery needs. But I don't have a car, and Walmart is the closest store, so it just isn't feasible to walk from one end of town to the other for all my needs. It has nothing to do with being busy!
You obviously didn't read my second post.
Yes coltivatore, I did read your second post. You obviously didn't read mine very well. I stated that I don't have a car to be able to stop at all the small tiendas! It's very difficult to walk from one end of town to the other, picking up one or two items at each store!
So you picked the 1st post and ignored the second. Why, so you could have something to bitch about. Or you missed the point it was about supporting the local small business and not the chains. I'm not really concerned about your transportation issues! Take a taxi.

Re: QUICK CHANGES
Why thanks, coltivatore, what a 'good idea' ! Just give me your address where I can send the bill for the taxi fare! After all, how much can it possibly cost to take a taxi from one end of town to the other, stopping at every small tienda, just so I can support the local businesses?

Excellent point. Some things just don't make sense.

Re: QUICK CHANGES
You are welcome suegarn. Miguel Martinez 607. Come on buy, I'll take you to all the tiendas where you can save the price of the taxi. The tiendas are closer together in Chapala. Spent all day shopping. Eggs were discussed, 1 kilo 16 eggs $22p. What does 18 cost at Walmart? Careful there banging your head. Your transportation issues have nothing to do with supporting the local tiendas. Get over it!
Gringal My comments to you. Nothing! Wast of time!
RV You must be an expert about insanity I'm sure. Do you always label people you've never met? What is your hourly fee?
As you can see I seldom post, (or view, only 35) because the Whining and Bitching get's old.
Loud music, barking dogs, sidewalks, roads, crime, mordita, tagging, "fix everything" etc. Did I miss anything?
I'm not sure why all of you are still here when you are so unhappy. Was everything perfect where you came from? Did you spend any time in MX. other than a vacation at the beach before you came here to live? As the saying goes this ain't Kansas!
I was happy here before Walmart, Soriana, Farmacia Guadalajara, The Mall, All the stoplights, and even the unpaved road from Chapala to Jocotepec. That's why I moved here. I thought I was leaving them behind. If most of those places were not here most of you would leave or never have come here, ever.
If you care to continue, take it to the Octagon and I'll tell you what I really think!

Please do take it to the Octagon coltivatore and tell us what you really think. I'm sure more than a few of us would find some humor in it.

It's already stuffed with fine ironies. More, might turn out to be an embarrassment of riches.
Let's turn back the clock about 50 years in Mexico. Those dirt roads are so charming, especially in the rain, and It's so nice for all those (busy) Mexican mamas to have to troop all over town to get their groceries because those supermarkets just don't go with the "movie". I wouldn't label it "insanity" at all. It's simply disappointment that things aren't the way they used to be. You hear that complaint a lot, no matter where you are.
Since such a large number of Mexicans shop in those supermarkets......I guess they just aren't willing to support the economy the way they "should". Reality check: when I was a kid, there were all kinds of small specialty markets in CA. Then the supermarkets invaded town, and some loyal folks continued to shop at the small shops........until they closed. The way of the world. I can't see trying to stop the rain, or tides of change.

Re: QUICK CHANGES
Coltivatore's invitation to the Octagon was subtle direction to keep him from getting bounced for personal attacks in the Mirador. But I agree with what you're saying Gringal.

Re: QUICK CHANGES
What year did they "pave" the road from Chapala to Jocotepec, and are you referring to the old cobblestone road (Camino Real) that went through the villages, or the "bypasses"? (which are now becoming the center of town, minus the plazas and templos. )coltivatore wrote: and even the unpaved road from Chapala to Jocotepec.

I have never seen them sold by the kilo anywhere around here (or anywhere period) and besides it still wouldn't make sense based on $480. Maybe they were pricing them by the 10 KGs........jajaja.
I don't know about Ajijic but tiendas in Joco, Ixtlahuacán and Chapala all sell eggs in a plastic bag by the kilo. I always order media kilo. (About 8 eggs) You carry them very carefully.
That is correct. .. I buy them the same way in Joco.
