Here is a new one; Never saw this before.
I got this $50 note in a stack of about 20 of them and didn't really look. I know who I got it from but that means nothing.
Went to spend it last night and the guy gave it back to me.
IMO, it was either exposed to some strong light and/or heat, or some chemicals, maybe in a washing machine?
It has the "plasticey" feel and cover but it's clearly not something someone will take.
I doubt Mexico, like the U.S., has a policy where you can bring in damaged currency and get a good one back.
Just glad it was $50 and not $500.
I put a "normal" $50 next to it.

looks like someone taped the corner back on incorrectly. Most businesses will not accept ripped or torn bills. Same if any part of the bill is missing. I was at a local restaurant having a couple of drinks and got a $20 that was missing about 1/4 of it in my change, so when I ordered my next drink, I used it to pay with. The bartender tried to tell me I couldn't use it. I told him he had given it to me in change, he denied it. I finally got him to take it, albeit relunctantly. I am sure he passed it off on someone else.

20P and 50P bills are part plastic thus the weird feel compared to 100 and up. The banks from time to time have a little booklet that shows all the security features in Mexican paper money. Even shows the rare 1000p note which I have seen twice in 5 years.

It seems the banks/money exchanges NOB have lots of those $1000 peso notes. I get guests that come down with stacks of them from the money exchange's back home. I usually advise them to go to the nearest bank and exchange a few of them for smaller denominations.

I just started seeing the 1000 pesos note from my canadian clients. I won't accept them for payment because I know I won't be able to get rid of them. I also advise them to go to the bank. I am certain that a lot of small stores around here not only do not have the change for them, but have never seen them and question their authenticity.

When I get them I save them for grocery shopping at WalMart. Hasn't ever been a problem using them there.

Tip of 50 pesos would mean he spent 500 on a meal. Where can one do that lakeside? And only before 6pm and not on Mondays or Tuesdays or perhaps any other day of the week they close for low gringo season

Where are we suppose to shop especially if you walk?
I hold my nose but I do shop at Walmart as most of us do in Ajijic.
Not trying to be stinky just curious about alternatives. You got some?
